Can you treat PTSD with alternative medicine?

I have a friend who seems to have all the symptoms associated with PTSD (She was severely abused as a child and went through several abusive relationships over a period of decades). She is now in a position where she cannot afford traditional medical treatment and would like a homeopathic or herbal approach to the disorder. She cannot even afford insurance that most likely would not cover such treatment. Has anyone used alternative medicine to treat it?

Let me know when you know. Personally, I have no use for conventional medicine which has turned out to be a rip-off. There is nothing more offputting when the answer anyone gives you to any health ailment is "See a doctor", like it was the most easy thing to do, when it is not. In this day and age in the United States, seeing a doctor is a LUXURY millions of people cannot afford.

Laws need to be changed in order for everyone to have access to health care. "Where is the money going to come from?" should be the LAST question asked and not the first, because a person's life should be worth more than money could ever buy.

Other countries in the world have access to free (or reduced price) health care. Why shouldn't we? Why is it that the wealthiest country in the world cannot afford to take care of its citizens? Every American who approves of the the health care status quo should be ashamed of him/herself. Such is either evil, or extremely submoronic.

This may be a truthful answer,.. but it doesn't help your friend at all.
She can get professional help,... if she is simply willing to ask for it.
Most healers out there are more interested in helping those in need, than they are in making money. Report It

I bet you must not live in the United States, Meatball.

I was torn between you and llexpat for best answer, but what made me decide in her favor is that you kept insisting on something that isn't an option for her and most Americans. Report It

Counseling is just as beneficial as medicines. Be a good friend. Help her avoid things that stress her, and help her cope with what she cant avoid. There is EMDR therapy ( Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ), that a licensed therapist can do in the office. This involves de-programming the brain with movements of the eye. Research shows it is very effective. It would be done in the office setting, and would be very affordable.

... I have had a good deal of experience with healing in this sort of situation. There are many different avenues of support that are available out there today,.. that are also "natural".

No doubt your friend is exhibiting such symptoms as chronic depression, panic attacks, difficulty sleeping etc. ... I completely understand your friends desire to pursue a "natural" course of support rather than a "medical" one. ... I do think that if she can afford to see a professional at least a couple of times,. who could help her decide on a course of treatment that would work for her,.. this would be a wise approach to take. ...........

Some form of "Holistic" practitioner,.. such as a Naturopathic Physician (they are listed in the Yellow Pages). .... Some of these professionals are even willing to help someone in a situation as your friend is,.. by charging them considerably less than their normal fee. She simply has to explain her situation up front to inquire as to whether or not such help is available. If she is not comfortable doing this,.. perhaps you could do this for her.

It is quite possible that a 'Classical Homeopothist',.. could help your friend a great deal,. but in my opinion,.. it would be wise for her to get an assessment and some guidance from a Holistic professional such as a Naturopath first. .. The Naturopath could certainly provide a natural prescription of remedies that would help to alleviate much of the depression and other symptoms she is no doubt suffering at this time. .. From there they would be able to determine what direction to take next towards her beginning to heal from her past.
