Alternative asthma medicine?

As a child I had very severe asthma but have since grown out of it, somewhat. I live like a walking pharmacy though, and I know most of these medicines in the doses I have been taking will probably lead to health problems later. My question is, I read about all these alternative medicines and some look like they may work without developing later problems, but what you read on the internet is not always reliable and I want to know the experiences people have had with them.

The medications I have been taking are singular, advair, prednisone, abuterol, (also allergy meds) and what I know about them is what I have learned from my doctor who sat me down to tell me that there are very real risks that are not as uncommon as most people think. But at the end of the day bone loss is better than dieing of an asthma attack.

i'm sorry i don't have any experience with them but i can recommend going to your doctor. he or she will know best for u.

see the food piramid...lots of water...med...blend...and dont forget the Qcumber..mix with all the vege you find in the store....dr appoint...after three month of everyday...you will be new...

I have client who is a female age 90 and she has chronic asthma. She would go to the emergency room and come out just as bad as when she went in.

I specialize in clinical psychiatry & acupuncture.

This client I see about once every six months an I give her acupuncure for her chronic asthma. She has no attacks and requires no medication.

Instead of her having almost a daily major attack she now only gets a minor attack about once every six months and is not on any medication.

The Chinese have used acupuncture 2000 years before Jesus Christ was born. So there is something to say about acupuncture for alternative treatment of the entire body as opposed to medications that have side effects.

Acupuncture is 100& natural and can cause you no harm. Only can help you.

If you decide to seek out a doctor of acupuncture, make sure he/she has a degree from a four year university in acupuncture.

Anything less then that myself I would not trust them. (I don't reside in the United States an I studied acupuncture for four years in Beijing China and two in Guadalajara, Mexico).

The law in the United States may only require two years.

Suggestion, if you pick out a doctor who performs acupuncture, ask to get a names of some of his/her clinets and call them and obtain their feedback on how their treatments helped them.

Wish you all the best

i think we need more information about your question. first, what medications were you talking about? if it's the typical albuterol and atrovent -- i wouldn't worry about it because side effects are milder... i mean, even patients without asthma take it. if we're talking about steroids, it's hard to tell because there have not been any documented evidence yet that health problems rose years after taking the medication.

what you read on the internet is not always reliable. who knows who wrote them. it is in your freewill to take my advice or not, but i think you should stop worrying about what medications you're taking. people have been taking the same medications for years already and so far, maybe a very small percentage of patients have experience severe side effects, compare that to the general percentage of people who took the medication. otherwise, why would the medications be still out on the market if they were proven harmful?

if you've been researching about these medications, one tip i would give you is to see if there are any studies done. if no studies were provided, then i wouldn't say it's credible. that's what medical science is all about, you cannot create a theory, not unless it has been proven (mostly by studies conducted). so don't feel discouraged. listen to your body, if you are feeling any adverse effects from the medication, then talk to your doctor about it.
