How can you control heart rate by meditation, etc?

I have read of yoga or Asian ways of slowing the heart rate.

Medicine can help but what are alternatives?

Any meditation will tend to slow down heart rate. There is no religious connotation to it. All that you do in meditation is to turn the attention inward, withdrawing from the the outer world.

Some of the practices in various Asian spiritual development is unsuited to the normal living. Unless done under proper guidance of a master, they can cause more harm than good.
