Pharmaceuticals, legalized drug dealers?

Is it just me or is there a magic pill for everything now?
My doctor has been trying to get me to take allergy medicine and to me it just didn鈥檛 seem right. If my body needs to get something that could be harmful out why try to hold it in or kill off that sensor? Now there鈥檚 new info, go figure, about the dangers of allergy medicine.

I have never taken medicine for it in the past and a few weeks into 鈥渁llergy season鈥?my problems went away on there own, with the help of increase vitamins and lots of water, while people who take medicine seem to have it continually.

Like a drug dealer, they get you hooked and keep you come back for more!

It's probably worse than you think.

Read "The Truth About the Drug Companies" The author was the editor of the New England Journal of Medicine for 20 years.

That being said, many doctors are very caring individuals who simply have no choice but to use the available drugs. This is because they are not trained in herbology or nutrition and the AMA once threatened to pull licenses of doctors that had anything to do with it.

It's the truth. Look how much doctors make, honestly. It's one of the most noble proffessions out there and they ruin it with their greed.

The pharmaceutical companys are no better. Medicines are super expensive. They advertise them on TV constantly ...Jesus.

You sound like you have a holistic view which is great. Yes Doctors are pushing more drugs. They have an agreement with the pharmaceutical companies if they promote they products then they get perks.

Unless its a food allergy or an allergy that leads to anaphylaxis then your body eventually builds a resistance. Yes vitamins and minerals and some herbs are the best defense for your body.

yeah, drug companies are always peddling the newest drug with more side effects than its worth. i was prescribed a cream for my dry skin which one of the side effects was a RASH? WTF? yeah i didn't use it. they are also lobbying to get the law lifted that says they have to list the side effects in advertisements.

My husband had an ulcer bleed a few months back and I had him on prilosec otc, ranitidine and maalox. We didn't have any health insurance at the time, so rather than take him to the ER I decided to take a couple days off school to keep an eye on him. I took him to my doctor a couple days after the bleed (it was still bugging him, but he wasn't throwing up anymore) and my doctor got him some samples of aciphex to replace the prilosec, which is in the same drug class. I told him thanks, but I had just bought a huge box of prilosec, and I wanted him to save the samples for someone who really needed it (we are ok financially). He insisted, saying that the aciphex works better than the prilosec. I was taking pharmacology at the time (MD didn't know) and had just researched everything there was related to the pathology and treatment of ulcers (Goodman and Gilman, package inserts, etc), and I knew that all the drugs in that class (PPI's) are all pretty much equal, there's no advantage or disadvantage of being on either one. So I accepted the offer, but I still can't get it out of my mind that he just maybe wanted to get rid of his sample supply of aciphex so that when the drug rep came back he or she would notice that he had given some away and maybe he would get a free lunch or even a vacation out of it? I was and still am mainly peeved that he lied to me... there's no need for that.
