My hair falls out in strands maybe 10 or less at a time please help any ideas?

When i was 17 i went to the Dermatoligist and she took a peice if my scalp along with a strand of hair attached and sent it to the lab she said it was alopecia but i have done some research and alopecia is when your hair falls out in paches and mine is not like that my hair is thin all around my head not in spots when i get a shower i have strands of hair maybe 10 at most that comes out everytime when i brush my hair the samething happens. The doctor said by the time i turn 30 which i am 24 now i will be bald but im not even close to being bald my hair is just thin its not genitic because none of my relatives have this problem mothers or fathers side my aunt told me to get my thyroid checked what do you guys think i should do?do you think it could be caused by thyroid problems?or maybe i should get a second opinon?

There is a shampoo called Nioxin that is suppose to help keep your hair from falling out. You can find it at a salon near you. The Nioxin is suppose to treat your scalp and keep it healthy, they tell many men to use it if they are loosing hair or in danger of it. My sister has very thin hair and uses the product and loves it. I tried it which I didnt need to my hair is very curly and thick, I liked it but it does make your scalp very cold when you use it. This way you can tell it is working. I think it is about $20.00 a bottle but it will last you about two months, you only need to use a dime size amount each time. Also do not wash your hair everyday if you can help it, washing it everyday takes all the natural oils out and leaves your hair in more danger of breaking off. Be sure to take a mutiple daily vitamin. Vitamin E, Biotin, Folic Acid, and Gelatin are extremly vital for healthy hair and scalp.

Alopecia is really any thinning of the hair. It's MAINLY characterized by hair falling out in spots, but it's not ALWAYS the case. It's often people who are just having thinning of the hair. It's normal to lose up to 100 strands of hair a day, though. Also look at genetics. Do either of your parents have thinning hair? Look at your grandparents. Hair loss is often genetic.

Yes, get a second opinion. If you can afford it, try going to a naturalpath. Often for problems like this they have the best and most natural remedies.

In the mean time, don't wash your hair every day, and use the most gentle shampoo you can find. Baby shampoo is not always the most gentle. Let it dry on its own as well. And no hair products until you find out what the cause is.

I hope your problem has an easy solution.

i would get a second opinion. talk to your normal doctor about whether or not it could be a thyroid problem. also, saying you will be bald by 30 is just an estimate.
