Alcoholism??! Help!!!?

I am doing a seminar on alcoholism in relation to the book Ellen Foster. The book is about this girl, Ellen, and her father is an alcoholic. He abuses her and does other horrible things, and eventually overdoses on alcohol and dies. What questions could I ask the class to keep them participating in a discussion relating to alcoholism? Anything would be greatly appreciated! THANKYOU!

I would suggest contacting your local chapter of Ala-Non Family groups. You will find their literature as a rich source for discussion material.

Some questions could be:

How has Ellens father's alcoholism affected Ellen?
How has it damaged her? How can she heal from it?
Could she of saved her father?
Why can't an alcoholic just stop drinking?
Why does the alcoholic let booze destroy their lives?

Ask them what their favorite drink is :)

Can anyone relate to Ellen?

Do you think her father could have made things right somehow?

How do you think Ellen felt after her father's death?

Ask them if they could share any of their experiences with alcohol?

1. What are negative effects of alcohol?

2. What should Ellen do?

3. Who should Ellen contact?

4. What would the student do?

ETC ETC ETC

bring in a alcohol chart with age and body weight and have the class find out what is their limit so that they do not get alki poisoning

Does Alchol kill? yes or no? Explain how you know.

How do you think Ellen felt when her father passed away?
What do you think about Alcohol and the effects it has on people?

That's all I can think of... but, best of luck to you.

I dont know about any question. But my father struggled with alcoholism for most of his life, for me however it came pretty easily.

ask them how they feel about the subject you will bring up many different reactions

you could ask them if they've had any problems with alcoholism, what part alcohol plays in their communities, what they think is the right path to take concerning drinking alcohol and what could would they do when confronted with Ellen's situation?

just a few thoughts.

Are people responsible for their actions while drunk? (I would say yes, but a lot of people, including some courts, say no - I think that is a central debate topic for your theme)

I loved the book and movie!!!! Excellent choice.

Does anyone in the class have a friend or relative that is an alcoholic?

Does anyone know the signs that someone is an alcoholic?

Can anyone define what an alcoholic is?

Questions:
How many of you drink daily?
Do you know the cons of drinking alcohol and how it affects the human body?
Do you know what diseases are related to alcohol abuse and excessive consumption?
If you had to turn for help, would you know where to turn to?

Those are just some I thought up..

Best of luck!

Do you think that his behaviour has influenced her?

What is a safe level of drinking?

Sorry - they aren't very good - I haven't read the book =(

Well, my dad is an alcoholic as well.

I think you should ask a question like, what do you truly think possesses someone to drink to the point of alcohol poisoning and do you think that alcoholism can ever be treated in a person who has been an alcoholic for more than 5 years...

ask why do some drink alcohol?
what good is it?
Is the purpose of drinking to get drunk?
How did it get started?
How many car accidents are caused by drinking?
How many familys are broken up by drunks?
How many women are drunks compared to how many men?
How many teenagers are drunks?

hope this helps =]
-Treatment of Alcoholism
For alcoholics who have decided to get help for their drinking problem there are many different treatment programs and approaches available, but there is no medical cure.Diagnosis of Alcoholism

-Diagnosing alcoholism can be tricky, since the diagnosis depends on the drinker being willing to honestly answer a series of questions about his or her drinking patterns and attitudes.
-Symptoms of Alcoholism
There are many symptoms of drinking problems, but there are seven major symptoms of the most severe drinking problem, alcohol dependence or alcoholism.
-What Is Alcoholism?
The term alcoholism refers to a disease known as alcohol dependence syndrome, the most severe stage of a group of drinking problems which begin with binge drinking and alcohol abuse

Does alcohol affect a woman's body differently from a man's body?

I have heard that alcohol is good for your heart. Is this true?

Why is alcohol so prevalent in society? People know it causes a lot of tragedy, yet it is readily available, WHY?

Try these:
Do you think anyone you know is in this situation?
How would you feel if you did know someone in this situation?
How would you help someone in that situation?
Would you help them even if they didn't want help?
What would you do in this situation?

not every alchoholic abuses their children make a point of that.but point out alchol dependance ruins the alcholics life aswell as people living with a alcoholic, but not all abusive but it distroys familys.and it can be cured .

Strike the parallel between Alcoholism and Homosexualism. They are very similar to those who are closest to the actual highly curable, highly treatable mental illnesses. There are treatment centers that have a tremendous amount of success with combating the ill-effects that stem out of such built-in characteristics of them both. For instance, if you ask an Alcoholic when he discovered he was an alcoholic then he will answer, 鈥淎fter my first drink.鈥? If you ask a practicing Homosexualist when he knew that he was also mentally deranged in that similar manner, then he will respond, 鈥淲hen I was just only a child.鈥? Now that does NOT mean that young homosexualistic males walk around in a brake shop or muffler shop, at the age of 4 or 5 and say; 鈥淚 need myself a man! I need myself a man! I need myself a man!鈥?. . . But there is still that same kind of denial that practicing alcoholics have. It鈥檚 just that alcoholics don鈥檛 have 鈥減olitical closets鈥?. . . They have meetings to attend, though. Good luck with your presentation. I hope it works for you.

But excuse, know that the mental health category need to ask questions and jokey fun, not serious, or things or persons with mental illnesses, then remove sbito demand and postala in another category

I don't know about this
