My son needs a liver transplant! Does anyone know of a center that will consider with a history of alcohol? |
He has fought alcoholism too recently to be considered for many programs. Please help us find a way to save him. He will not be able to get a transplant until he can document 6 months sobriety. Plus he will have to go through an evaluation through a transplant team (psychological, financial, support, etc). Livers are precious organs and they want to make sure whomever gets one will take care of it. Many people are in need, but only those who can prove they will adhere to post-transplant care will receive one. My heart goes out to you. Is he still willing to do what needs to be done to show he will adhere to the treatment care program? I will keep both of you in my prayers. Best wishes. All programs I know of require you to sober for at least 6 months. |
