How can you Help? |
How can you help somone suffering from alcoholism. There are many ways to help. the only way really if they don't want to help themselves is to be there for them when they need someone to be there you cant help someone with this kind of situation if they dont want to help them self, until they realize that once and addict, always an addict they are just fooling them self's and ur wasting ur energy , alcoholism and addiction is a terrible way to live , just show them love and support and encouragement ive had alcoholism in my family for yearssss with several family memebers.. even some drug addicted members as well.. well what it really comes down to is if THEY want to quit...do they want to stop?? or how low do they have to go before they realised their lives are headed down a one-way road to no where that that say okay guys.. its time i stop... For some people it is a longer, more tragic road for both them and their family and friends. But all I can say is that they need support from their ffriends and family and you have to make them feel accepted and unaftraid to tell you the truth because they are going to mess up atleast once.. or atleast have thoughts of doing so. You just have to remind them of all the posoitive reasons of quiting their dependancy...also keeping in mind their own reasons as well where as they might differ be contradiction. You can't help someone who won't help themselves. You can do as others say and be there for her/him, but chances are you will be the one to get hurt. Sometimes you have to step back and hope they will realise that they are hurting themselves. Sounds harsh, but you can only do so much. This advice took me 10 years to work out for myself, and it was 10 years of hell. All you can do is be supportive, They must be ready in themselves to accept help and get clean. Intervention. If that doesn't work, leave them alone. Let them hit rock bottom even if it is their death. |
