I dont drink but about every 2-3 weeks, but when I do I get wasted! Anxiety! Alcoholic>?

I have severe anxiety, so I stay away from the alcohol in social situations and my friends get ittiritated that I dont join in. The alcohol makes my anxiety/social phobia/paranoia worse. But about ever 2-3 weeks I feel great and on top of the world and I go get beer, turn up the tunes and get online and entertain myself while I get wasted! I usually drink a 6 pack. I know this is odd, but is this alcoholism? I drink to null the pain and anxiety and finally feel great, cause most of the time I am in panic mode. But then the cycle continues and 2 days later I start panic all over again...whats the deal????

I take anxiety meds already...effexor 150mg and buspar 10 mg 2 x daily...whatcha think?

drinking to get drunk is a sign of alcoholism. Whether or not you are alcoholic is something you have to answer because none of use yahoo land know you that well. But usually, another way to determine if you are alcoholic is if it is ruining your life AND you are not able to stop drinking, even though it is ruining your life. So, if its not doing any damage to your life, maybe you're just a lush. Alcohol is a slippery slope though, just because it is legal doesn't mean it can't screw things up for you pretty good.

6 beers is not wasted unless you're 2 feet tall.

I drink 2 smirnoff and I am spinning. I dont drink that much but when I do I am the same way. I would talk to your doctor about your anxiety. They have meds that help with anxiety, but it make take a few to find one that is good for you... I know how it is and good luck!

your an alcoholic, when you NEED to drink something and you grab that. and it becomes ritual to you.

you have to figure out why your having anxiety attacks though. do you have a lot of caffeine? do drugs? smoke? are you hooked on peppermint (increases beta waves in the brain, hyper) - everything in conjunction?

it could be psychological as well, you should'nt use the booze to calm anything down - or you will become a drunk. and it will destroy your brain.

It sounds like you need more alcohol.
Who said that? Was that you?
Why is all the rum gone?

a once in a while binge is not that bad.. but every day is another story . take it form someone who binges every other day.. you ok..wont to trade places
