My friend shakes when she hasn't had alcohol for a couplr of hours...? |
I was wondering if anyone could give me some concrete health info that I could share with her to let her know how deep into alcoholism that is. She also has a chronic cough. Her abdomen is also distended. She probably already has liver damage if her belly is distended. She is shaking from withdrawl syndrome. Tell her how much she means to you and how you really feel about her alcoholism. Encourage her to get professional help. She needs more help then you can give her if she is really that bad. Someday, she will thank you for probably saving her life. Does her parents know she has this problem? Maybe they could help you too? SHE SHOULD SEE HER DOC!!! Its called withdrawls - get medical help to cope with it. look for a detox clinic. its basically the first step to recovery. the shakes... that would be the D.T.s get a bunch of people and some proffesionals on the subject and stage an intervention. yo get your friend help ASAP! take She's got dt's. Essentially, she is going through alcohol withdrawls. That's a bummer, and she needs to get professional medical help to go through them without feeling like she is gonna die. I don't know about the cough, but a distened abdomen could be a few things -- it could mean malnutrition (picture the little starving kids in Africa with their distended bellies). must have withdrawal effects...tell her to stop drinking slowly Your friend has what is called D.T. or delirrim Tremors. It occurs when the body is going through withdrawl from alcohol. This is a serious condition and you should try to get your friend help fast. If there is an alcoholic in a observation room and a person strung out on herroin in another room, the person who is an alcoholic is more at risk of dying then the drug attic. Alcohol is a poison and can cause adverse affects. The Shakes are called DT"s. This is a definite sign of alcoholism and something her Dr needs to Know as he treats here. You are right to show concern. This friend needs help now. Professional help. Intervention and treatment. I am reasonably sure AA has a web site, try asking there how to get her started. This woman is in serious physical trouble. She needs to get to a clinic soon. Put 911 on speed dial. Alcohol withdrawal..Its not a pretty sight Ive seen it many times.. The shakes are called DT's,is alcohol withdrawl and needs medical supervision. The soundest advice is to take her to the Dr. Sounds like the DT, or Delirium Tremens (alcohol withdrawal). The distended abdomen is probably ascites from hepatic failure and cirhossis. Needs to see a doc very quickly!!! DISTENDED ABDOMEN: she needs help and a good friend like you to get her thruogh this it is very hard im a recovering drug addict ive been clean for a year, its hard but if she has a good support system she will pull through i think the fisrt step is treatment, she needs to admit that she has a problem, she has to want help you cant force her or it wont work, and you will run yourself down and possible make things worse for her. good luck i truly hope everything goes good for her You should sit her down and tell her what is happening to her body. It sounds like she is going throught DT'S. This is bad for her health. She shouldn't quit drinking all at once. Search the web for alcoholism. There should be plenty of information on her disease. She will pretend that nothing is wrong. She will be in denial. Let her know that you are her friend and that you will stand by her side and that she needs to see her doctor right away. There are plenty of rehab centers and AA centers. She needs to be around people who have been in her situation to hear and see what they went through, and maybe that will open a few doors. It will take time, but eventually, she will get better. Good Luck!!! If your friend is in the throes of withdrawal (that is what it sounds like). The other symptoms is what is alarming. Take her to the ER, they know how to deal with the symptoms you describe. It sounds as though your friend is experiencing alchohol withdrawal symptoms. The heavier a drinker someone is, the more chance they will experience such symptoms anywhere from a few hours after having their last drink up to several days after. Everyone that reads this should note alcoholism withdrawal is the only one that can actually kill you. The DT's are fatal if not treated |
