Effect of alcohol consumption on a diet? |
I'm about to begin a diet to lose 10-15lbs and develop better upper body strength. Removing sugars isn't an issue, but I do enjoy some beers on the weekend. On average, I consume anywheres from 20-30 beers a month. alcohol interferes with the Krebs cycle which has an negative effect on fat loss in several ways. also the higher the BAC the lower test levels will be. the lower test levels are the lower the basal metabolic rate will be which makes losing body fat very, very difficult. alcohol also disrupts the sleep cycle where the majority of growth hormone is released at the end of the first sleep cycle. GH is the most powerful fat burning substance that the human body produces along with it's anti-catabolic properties. Beer has mega amounts of calories and many have beers also have lots of carbs so being a weekend warrior would effectively counter-act your diet. Beer has a lot of carbs. Carbs turn to sugar. My dad is a diabetic and is not supposed to drink beer because it will make his blood sugar too high. I don't know how strict you are on the kind of alcohol that you drink but maybe you should try Diet Pepsi or Coke with Vodka. That is the only thing my dad will drink because it don't have any sugar in it. The number of beers you say you drink in a month should have little effect on your diet. beer is calorific.... and just all around unhealthy for you Drinking beer is like eating candy. Both are empty calories. Alcohol itself only has 7 calories per gram. Its the carbs that most drinks contain that will hurt diets. If you are going to keep drinking beer, cut back on the amount and keep track of the calories. How bad do want to reach your goal? Plain and simple. Have what you like. Just be prepared to sweat it off. So have a wobbly pop but your pennants will be an extra 30 minutes of cardio (per beer). If you don't want to do the extra cardio...Have a diet coke instead. Good luck with your plan. |
