Will the NHS ever get out of the hole it is in?

i am particularly thinking of the multi-million pound debt the trusts are in. What could they introduce to help this? I think people who require treatment for obesity/alcohol or drug abuse should pay for their treatment (obviously i dont mean people who are obese due to a medical condition)

As boring as this answer may appear pleas stick with it, first waiting lists are down people are waiting less time for operations, second research was done in to the tax that smokers paid and the conclusion was that smokers pay more tax than is spent on them by the NHS as they tend to DIE, thirdly i (as a disgruntled NHS professional looking to move abroad) believe that the problem with the NHS is that it is ran as a business with to many managers with to many ideas i believe that for the NHS to survive it should only supply emergency service. GP,s should charge a minimal fee for a consultation to prevent time wasters after all dentists do and that system is not abused, and at last to answer your question NO!!!

I really hope the NHS gets out of the quagmire it is in at the moment.Easy to say,but where would they draw the limit on what is a medical condition and what isn`t?

this is a good point. like if smokers get cancer should they be treated...HELL YEA THEY SHOULD. the fact is simple they pay enough in taxes to pay for the nhs twelve times over.

now in context of being under funded or debt it is in is this, the nhs do not have enough nurses or doctors and it is run totally wrong. now if you go back to the nhs about 25 years ago it ran smoothly and not so many people waiting for surgery or treatment. POINT IS, the nhs is a service not a business and should not be treated as one.

Nope it will just get worse.
This is the problem trying to be socialistic in a country with a population of 60mil & counting.
Canada has a great health service but the population is half of here,America's is terrible unless you have money which encourages privatisation.
We are slap bang in the middle.
If you charge druggies you further the crime scale because they are more often then not,not high salary.
Sad but true.

We have only two choices...pay more tax and get a better service, or don't pay more tax and let it go to the dogs.......The polititians however are not that honest so just tinker around the edges....Having said that, there is way way way too much bureaucracy in the Health service...get rid of some of the pen pushers and Empire Builders and it would help

Call in the Quincy to shake things up...
