My mom has had 10 back surgaries in the past year and half...is addicted to pain meds...how do i help...?

My mother has a long history of addiction from alcohol to pain meds..(not drugs as in crack or heroin ect.) she was stepped on by her hourse when she was 13 & now she is 47 and has had over 10 surgaries on her lower back she has a cage in her lower back, she broke her discs & are now replaced. she was abusing medication and alcohol for most of my life (21years)she has been dry for 3 years and I am very proud of her, The reason she had to have so many back surgaries is cuz about 2 years ago took to many meds & started going crazy, she called me on the phone & told me someone was chasing her and that she was going to jump off her two story balconey..which she did...she didnt get a surgary for 6 months due to no medical insurance ..she had 10 back surgaries over the course of 9 months. Its been allmost 6 months since her last surgary and she still is in Pain& now is on Nuerotin & vicodin & probaly about 3 other medication luckaliy she got off oxycottin. How can I help my mom?

YOUR MOTHER HAS HAD A LOT OF SURGERIES SO THERE IS A LOT OF NERVE DAMAGE AS WELL AS STRUCTURE DAMAGE. WHICH CAUSES NEVER ENDING PAIN. THE NUREOTIN IS A SEIZURE MEDICATION , BUT NON- ADDICTIVE. TALK TO HER DOCTOR ABOUT HER PAST DRUG PROBLEM AND SEE IF THERE IS A LESS ADDICTIVE DRUG SHE CAN USE OR IF SHE NEEDS ALL THAT SHE IS TAKEING SHE PROBABLY USED THE ALCOHOL AND PAIN MEDS FOR THE PAIN. Massage from a sensitive therapist, preferably a reiki attuned or karuna attuned. A process called deep tissue release-it will release all those pent up emotions and get them out in the open.

Suppression is a killer... you have to release those hurts if you are to move forward and be in control.

She needs counseling badly, in my opinion. Try your local city/county health department (usually free) and get a counselor to at least talk to your mother. Recovery from physical pain and substance abuse takes time, so take it one step at a time, and dont give up.

I am not a doctor but i could share with you that vicodin is very addicting,as im sure you know,see if you could try to limit her as much as possible to theses meds because of being an addict in the past. I was in a car accident many years ago and i hurt my shoulder and it was suppose to be forever,some days the pain was very servere,other days i would be fine. I went to this little small church and gave my life to God and one night in the service I felt fire come upon my body,my back and shoulder and i got healed.I always believed in God but i never really believed,like i do now and i got healed. I tell you to just say a pray and say Lord, if this woman is telling the truth and you care for me and my mom i ask you to reveal yourself and heal my mom,and if you do i will give my life to you, I ask in Jesus' name.This prayer wont hurt,just give Him a chance He is faithful,He also healed me from drugs and alcohol abuse. 13 years i used and i have been set free where i dont go to meetings, i pick up and read the bible and it changed my life.
