To any recovering addicts out there ...?

Has anyone been able to stop using drugs/alcohol on their own? And does substance abuse counseling and/or meetings help?

I have been clean for 2 months now, and have been struggling terribly over the holidays. I want very much to quit and succeed in life, however I feel like I'm constantly fighting a battle.

Many of we alcoholics have been down that road of recovery & we are naturally all different. I can only speak from my personal experience. I have my recovery, rather than habit, under control. 1 of the 1st concepts the "doctors/experts" try to sell you is that you're helpless. yuhrite.... Anyhow, I only speak for me. However the meetings are a joke. They help in that they triggered my desire to drink heavily. I can't tell you the no. of times I observed a few other women, men leave the meeting when I did, only to discover them at the same nearby bar, SERIOUSLY. Hey, give yourself an award! Stop permitting others to control your life/habits. Stop the struggling ; You Take Control ! The aged approaches do not work anymore. Despite what they say, alcohol CAN be managed into your life ! I did it that's how I know others Can. Don't be persuaded by the fools that you can't. You have more self management skills than you or 'they' give you credit for. Abuse programs are too negative. Stress the positive. Much recovery control is about mindset. This isn't med. school ; now THAT'S a struggle ! Think of it as you would approach martial arts. It's about a DISCIPLINE. Proceed.

i did, it took a big awakening for me to do it, but i did it on my own. you're strong enough girl, don't doubt yourself

hello. I know it is difficult although I am a 16 yeer old boy and because of my parents ubstance abuse issues i have bee in the State sstem for about 2 yeers almost and it is miserable! please if you have kids do it for them. Also I would suggest a 30 in patient.

It will be a life long battle but it get's easeir, my opinion on treatment it works only if you wnat it to and only if you go and do it for yourself. They will tell you that your first day there. You cant quit for anyone but yourself. and meetings they work its hard but when you go you need to find a sponser someone that has been cleaned for 1 or more yrs someone you can trust and that you can call any hour of any day if your having a craving or you feel like your going to relapse you need to call this person no matter what time it is cuz thats what they are their for. And in the meetings you need to talk and belive me its hard, i can make friends anywhere but when im in a group of people that big i get alittle scared but i promise the talking will help. TRY IT FOR YOURSELF.
