If I have Diabetes from Agent Orange exposure...?

Basically, I want to know if my partner, whose father was in Vietnam and exposed to Agent Orange, and who had Diabetes before my partner was born, I want to know if this means there is a stronger change of her getting Diabetes and could someone just explain this to me a little? If her father had Diabetes because of A.O - what are the chances of her getting Diabetes?

with her father being exposed to agent orange. if it was before she was born ( i believe) then she needs to contact the local VA hospital or somewhere just to be sure she doesn't have any unknown medical problems as a result. Sometimes things show up and sometimes they don't. However my brother in laws wife died of cancer caused by her dads exposure to agent orange. the military or whoever will cover any medical problems she may have that are connected to agent orange offspring. So it is a higher risk for her to develop diabetes but also other problems as well. I hope everything works out for the best and that she doesn't develop any problems down the road.

I would worry less about the agent orange and more about diet, exercise, and weight management. I doubt the a.o. has anything to do with diabetes. As long as she maintains a healthy weight, eats a low fat, nutritious diet, and exercises regularly, she'll most likely be fine.

Her chance of getting diabetes are alot higher then people who have parents that don`t have diabetes.Agent Orange had nothing to do with it.If she did get diabetes would you stop loving her?I hope not for her sake.

There has been some question of associating Agent Orange with the development of diabetes in the veterans. Don't know if it has been proven yet. But for whatever reason, I would say that she has a better than average chance of developing it. It runs in my family so wasn't suprised with the diagnosis. My husband is a Viet Nam vet and we get updates on Agent Orange all the time. If we get anything else about diabetes being associated with Agent Orange, I will come back here and let everyone know.
