Ear piercing help?

i just got a second ear piercing...over my first....got it with the piercing gun...im african american...how do i clean the piercing?...and how can i prevent KELOIDS?

First, don't turn the ring (the skin does not grow over the jewelry) if you turn it while dirty you'll pull bacteria into it. Don't use peroxide, antiseptic, lotions ever. The only thing you should use is a mild anti-bacterial soap.

Here's the correct information:
-Wash only once a day. The only other time to clean it is if it gets extra dirty or sweaty. (overcleaning is almost as bad as not at all)
-Wash your hands properly
-Wash the area around the rind then the exposed ring.
-Once the exposed area is clean, turn it and clean the rest.
-Rinse all soap out and dry all moisture with a tissue.
-Soak it once a day in a salt solution. 1/4tsp non-iodized salt to a cup of warm/hot water. Soak 5-10 minutes (no more/less).

It really is that easy. If you suspect an infection go to a doctor.

You're right about being African American and keloids. The darker your skin the more prone to kelioding.
The is no real way to avoid it. If you get one catch it early.
First line of defense:
Crush an uncoated aspirin and mix it with warm water until it makes a paste. Apply it to the front and back of the piercing. Leave it on over night and rinse it well in the morning.
If it gets worse you'll probably need to see a doctor for cortisone shots.

when you got your ears pierced you should have gotten some sort of cleaner with the purchase of the piercing. if you did then put some of the cleaner on a cotton ball and clean the ear around the piercing (back and front) at least twice a day if not more. If you didn't get cleaner then you can use something like neosporin to keep it from getting infected. also make sure to rotate the earring so that the skin doesn't heal around it. as long as you keep the area around the piercing clean and it doesn't get super infected you shouldn't get keloids.

You clean the piercing with an antiseptic. Use hydrogen peroxide on cotton balls and saturate the front and back of your ear and clean off the earring, too. Once you put the earring back in, twist it in your ear.
