Having trouble finding a therapist...?

I have an insurance that has specific places to go to. One place I was referred to for therapy (at my request) said they would match me up with a therapist and that person would call me. what I wanted was old unresolved family and adoption issues and stress, also with a pshychoanalytic approach (as oppsed to cog. behavioral). A therapist called me two days later, we made an appt, she said to bring my ins card to my appt. I said I didnt have one, my ins co. generally tells me to have the facilty call them to verify, and this hasnt been a problem. she like almost argued with me, then finally said, 'youre the first person I know that dosent have a card'. Then I looked at the website, and she is a social worker...I wanted a psycholgist, really...So I call the agency today to ask how they 'match' people, and this woman, calls me 'dear' (twice) and says I know who you are talking about (SW) and gets really defensive saying that she is president of the psychoanalytic fdn, ect, I say I just

wanted more information, and she makes a BIG deal out of it still, saying we can change her, you can call her up, ect, I said, no I just wanted information, and she continues again on, calling me dear again. Left me with a funny taste...any other opinions? I just dont want to 'unload' and it isnt the best fit..thanks

Stick to your guns 'til you get what you want, don't be fobbed off with this social worker who is not trained to deal with your issues.
It's appalling that youv'e been treated in this patronising manner - part of the entrenched prejudice that people with similar issues have to deal with.

You don't say whether your question was eventually answered - how they match people. My bet is that the proper procedures haven't been followed and that she is defending herself from criticism. So sad that people like this are actually hold positions like president of the psychological foundation.

Don't open up your personal issues to any kind of therapist who doesn't treat you with common decency and respect, or you will be laying yourself open to harm.
