The minimum age for tubal ligation (aka tubes tied)? |
My background: For those of you who wish to insult me properly, I would suggest that you first complete a remedial English class. Why is it that the idiots are always the most opinionated? Tubal ligation is an effective, safe means of pregnancy prevention that any legally consenting adult may choose to have so long as they have the ability through insurance or out-of-pocket to purchase. Many young women, such as yourself, are opting for this method of birth control. However, there are some physicians who refuse to perform this procedure on women under 30 for whatever ridiculous ideological reasons they possess. There is no valid medical reason not to have this procedure if it is what you, after much consideration, have decided is the right thing for you. If your doctor is reluctant, then by all means, go find another doctor. There are many doctors that will be quite happy to perform this procedure. You will not find a Doctor in the US to perform that surgery on you at your age. You will have to use alternative forms of birth control for at lease the next 10 years. As long as you are of the age of consent, 18, you can have your tubes tied. You may have a bit of a problem finding a doctor that will want to do the procedure, as they will also try to talk you out of it, tell you all the things that you don't want to hear. But as far as being the right age, you can have it done at 20. I would suggest Planned Parenthood or any type of an agency that deals with pregnancy planning and ask them for a referral to a doctor that will perform the procedure. Sorry I guess you'll just keep popping babies out and giving them out like free candies!!!! good luck!!! way to go!!!! maybe mother nature does make mistakes and she gives the ability to have babies to the wrong women... I am not going to say you will change your mind.If I were you and I never wanted to have any I mean any children and I had already gone through the whole pregnancy and gave my little baby away Because I definitely did not want ANY Children period bottom line by all means. I feel the same way you do about never wanting children, except I am almost 30 and I have still not been able to find a doctor to do the surgery for me. It is ridiculous! They will let anyone who is able pop out 5 kids before they're 20, but they won't let a woman choose to have her tubes tied? What is wrong with the health care system when it's legal for abortions, but this "legal" surgery is frowned upon?? It's my body, and if I want to have the surgery, then why is it any different from choosing to have an abortion, or breast implants, for that matter?! So hang in there, girl... you'll probably have a hard time getting it done, at least until after you're 25. And btw, planned parenthood sucks on this issue... believe me, I already tried them! Legally, I believe that you only have to be 18 to have a tubal ligation performed and it doesn't matter if you have already had children or not. The problem is trying to find a doctor that is willing to perform tubal ligation on a woman that is still pretty young. The good news is that when I was 21, I looked into having a tubal ligation and I actually found a doctor that was willing to perform it. I haven't had any children, nor do I want any children. I think that the doctors are afraid to do this for woman that are so young because they are worried that they might face some kind of legal problems if the woman regrets her choice 5 years later. In the US there are no legal age requirements for tubal ligation except being a legal adult (over 18). Feminist Women's Health Center believes that all women have the right to sterilization, no matter what their age, so if you have a FWHC clinic near you, you might try there. |
