Bowl Adhesion?

Does anyone know the recovery period for a bowl adhesion operation on the small intestine for someone with a colostomy bag?

to resume college, where a lot of walking is envolved and not a lot of time. Also keep in mind there was a fasting period of 9 days, a chest infection and tonsolitus at the same time.

Define recovery? Well enough to leave the hospital? To resume a normal diet, to resume all normal activity including strenuous?

As long as the bowel did not require resection, the recovery time would be defined by the abdominal wound, not releasing the adhesion. IOW, the surgical incision through the abdomen would require more time to heal.

Not all adhesions are equal. Some are small and require just a snip to release. Others are extensive and may actually require removal (resection) of a portion of the bowel itself.

Some can be done through a laparoscope, which would avoid a large adominal incision and reduce recovery/healing time (though many surgeons might be wary of this approach for adhesions). Others are going to require a major abdominal incision.

Being well enough to go back to school could be in as little as 7 days or up to 14 days, depending on how rigorous your class schedule, how much walking, and your own well-being or stamina (and whether your pain is adequately controlled without drugs that might affect your alertness, concentration, and cognitive function). Its highly individual, there is no magic estimate, it could be 21 days for you.

Lifting or carrying more than 10lbs will probably be out of the question for at least four weeks (possibly longer), so you might check with your school's disability and special needs office to see if there is any assistance offered to help carry books and whatnot between classes for you.

bowl or bowel ???
Why didn't you ask your doctor about recovery time? Call the doctor to ask.

We don't know anything about it .
