I just had my tonsils and adenoids taken out and I need to know how to ease the pain!? |
I just had my tonsils and my adenoids out 5 days ago but it feels like its harder to swallow more than ever. I have to eat with the pain medicine because if I don't then I get sick and throw up, but everything I eat tastes like medicine itself, even plain spring water. I don't know what to eat to make me not nauseous and It hurts really bad. Is there anything extra I can do to ease the pain other than taking my regular pain killers every four hours? I keep ice on my neck all the time but I need something else. And also, is there any way to get that bad taste out of my mouth? I tried brushing my tounge and it helped a little but not completely. Please help I'm in so much pain!!! It was 15 yrs. ago when I had my tonsils out and I still remember that exact awful taste you are talking about, its like nasty hospital old yucky medicine taste! Try eating mild, soft food. Applesauce and warm broth, stuff like that. Avoid dairy for a while, it seems to coat your throat and make the pain and that nasty taste worse (that whole ice cream thing is a myth). Keep trying to brush your teeth every day even if it hurts. I remember water tasted bad when I first started drinking it, but my mom kept pushing both the water and ice chips and they did seem to start to rinse the taste away after a while. Popsicles were also soothing and tasted good. You should start feeling better soon, just hang in there! suck ice! |
