We got the news my 14 months old will have to get Tubes in his ears and Adenoids done. Today so need research. |
I'm new to this parenting gang and even more new to Tubes and ear infections I'm 21 and never had an ear infection in my life Thank God. My son now 14 months will be 15 months oct 10. Had got 2 ear infections one in each ear. And kept fluid in his ears while being on antibodies for about 3 months now. So his ENT at childern hospital decideds its time for tubes and Adenoids to get done. So any research. Been there done that people. tell all you know or site to go to. Even if just to chat about this. I'm quit scared about the whole thing. All three of my children have had tubes. Only one had adenoids removed because they were so large. It's not a big deal. They will put your child to sleep with a mild anesthesia, put the tubes in and then let him wake up. Be ready for a really cranky baby that cries a lot. Not pain, but just reaction to the anesthesia, it's normal. After that, they don't even notice, just have to make sure the ears stay dry when bathing. We used ear plugs or cotton with vaseline. They usually come out on their own and sometimes have to be replaced if the infections start again. My yougest had 4 sets before she was infection free. Believe me, it's better than walking the floor while they scream with pain and pull at their ears until they are blood red. I worked for an ENT. We put tubes in adults in the office with only a local anesthetic on the ear drum. Can't do that with children cause they won't hold still and the noise of the tube piercing the eardrum is loud. Hope this helps some. Nothing to worry! Just make sure you wait till he is at least 18 months. My son had it done at 18 months. His ENT said that he would never do it to a child that is less than 18 months. We were very lucky that his ENT happened to be the top rated pediatric ENT surgeon in the southeast. He is also a board member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, so I really respect his opinion. He is still my sons ENT to this day. |
