My son is 4 yrs old and has been refered to ent for suspected enlarged adenoids and tonsils ,?

anyone else been through this and did your child have night sweats and snoring ? he also has small but noticeable gland on his neck , is this all normal for enlarged adenoids ?

I was also referred to an ENT for suspected enlarged adenoids as a child (at about age 11). I suffered from night sweats, extreme allergies, & hearing difficulty. An appendectomy was suggested, but I never went through with the surgery because of other health complications.

Now, I still see an allergist weekly & receive immunization injections. This seems to have helped my problem, but I still suffer from hearing loss every now & again.

I'm sure the ENT will help explain the situation so you can make an educated decision on what course of action to take. They may even give your son a rhinoscopy to view the adenoids with a camera. This is a somewhat painful procedure in which a camera in sent through the nasal cavity & into the back of the throat. By rhinoscopy is the only way doctors can view these hard to reach tissues.

I wish you the best of luck & if you have any additional questions feel free to email me!

My son had enlarged adenoids. He constantly sounded like he had a cold. Actually, he had adenoids so big, that the doctor wished he had video taped his surgery because he had never seen them that large before. The doctor was the head pediatric surgeon, ENT, in a big hospital. My son constantly had sinus infections too. He did snore, but not night sweats? He did not have a small gland in the neck, I'm not sure if thats related to the adenoids. My daughter had her tonsils out and she had snoring and dry mouth, but again no sweating. See the ENT, ear, nose and throat. He will be your best bet. My son was not diagnosed until we went to the large hospital with more experienced doctors. Good luck!

Not a big deal these days. Usually outpatient surgery. My oldest son had the snoring until he had his tonsils removed. No problems since. Sorry I have no idea about the gland, but the ENT can tell you. Good Luck!

I had this same problem with my son who is now 31years old his son had the problem also. I suggest the EMT specialist is the best when it comes to these problems. Your son should have this done asap, because when he gets older it will be more harder on him for the procedure usually requires surgery. I hope this helps you decide on the doctors advice.

the adenoids are a unused organ sort of like your appendix. Its located somewhere behind your face, and can be removed in a fairly easy procedure which I had done when I was 7 over 2 decades ago. I was only in the hospital for one day. My symptoms however were quite different for having enlarged adenoids. Because they are next to your ear canal, they pinched off my hearing and I lost it completely in one ear and eventually in both all in the process of one month. Also I had very pain full earaches. The symptoms your decribing sound more like a problem with his tonsils, but an ENT will be able to make a better prognosis. Either way neither his tonsils or adenoids will ever bring him any joy in his life, and if he ever has other health problems, they can rule those out pretty quick if they are missing! These are very common procedures and will most likely bring him more comfort in the long run then discomfort now.

My son is a night sweater but I have never brought it up with his doctor.

My grandson had this operation last summer, he was 5yrs old. He did snore, but not night sweats.
He was a very poor sleeper because he didnt breathe properly. He woke up constantly though the night.
He was also quite deaf, and had to have grommits put in.
He is now a different child.
Before he didnt want to go to school, mainly because he couldnt hear. He was well behind all the other children, even though we knew he was quite intelligent.
He was a very poor eater, and small for his age.
Since the operation he has a really good appitite, and has grown quite a lot.
His school work has improved 100% and he is now on a level with the rest of the class, instead of being one of the poorest.
He also sleeps much better.
His life (and that of him mum and dad) has improved so much since his operation.
Good luck with you son.
