My son is 5 and the doctor just said he needs his tonsils and adenoids removed? |
I was taking him to an ENT for continued problems with allergies that have mostly effected his eyes. I was going to have them do an allergy test so we can find out what is causing his reactions and eliminate it, since he is on 4 different medications, including a nasal spray and eyedrops. When she examined him, she said he needs his tonsils and adenoids removed and that the blood test would be easier to do while he is under for surgery. I guess I wasn't detailed enough. There are reasons for the recommendation of surgery. He is having difficulty breathing at night, which makes him snore, makes him nearly impossible to wake up in the morning, and about once a week or so, he will fall asleep on the way home from the sitter's around 5:30, and will sleep through dinner, all through the night until morning. When he does this, he does not wake up for dinner, no matter how hard we try. If we can get him up, he just cries and refuses to eat, only wants to go back to sleep. He also has a certain degree of hyperactivity that they are saying can be related to the sleep troubles. Wow it sounds like he really needs to have them out. Mine were just taken out at 29 and it was a much longer recovery. My mom is a nurse and she explained tonsils to me this way: Tonsils and adnoids (part of the same category) were initially a part of the immune system that helps fight off infection, but they can turn on your own body and that is when they need to be removed. He will recover a lot quicker than you think and will be feeling a lot better soon. You need a second opinion. Please do it ASAP. God Bless! If you don't trust what the ENT is telling you get a second opinion. You should always get a second opinion when surgery is suggested and your ENT shouldn't get offended by it. |
