Have u ever known sumone that was majorily ingured by this surgery?!?!? i am so scared! should i take tylenol before igo in for surgery? tell me sum stuff to get for after the surgery that will help the pain plz

Adult patients are usually warned to expect some bleeding after the operation of adenotonsillectomy and a very sore throat. You would not be advised to self medicate, you will find that Antibiotics are given to prevent infection. Medications to relieve pain may also be given. You will probably need to stay in hospital overnight and return home with instructions to call the doctor if there is bleeding, an earache, or a fever that lasts longer than three days. You will probably be told that after about 12 hours, you can expect a white or yellowish membrane (thin skin) to appear where the tonsils were. It's nothing to worry about and isn't a sign of infection, it's just new skin growing over the wound. Patients whose tonsils are removed by the newer heat method, called coblation, seem to have less pain afterwards. They also seem to heal faster and start eating normally sooner. After several hours, you will be able to drink, and will be encouraged to eat normally as soon as possible. This can help with the healing process. It will be a couple of weeks before you are back to normal.

Hope this helps

i had it done. it is very minor, and the recovery is fairly quick. for at least the first week, don't eat anything hard. stick to yogurt and ice cream. also nothing hot! ice can help with the pain and to numb it. dont take tylenol or inbuprofen prior to surgery, they will thin the blood and make it harder to stop bleeding. good luck! :) you will do fine!!

Dont be scared, it's a pretty safe operation. I had it done a few years back. The scariest part is actually waiting for it to be done lol. Recovery isn't that hard, you might have a slight headache and a sore throat, and you'll probably be pretty tird...I think I was up and functioning after like 3 days though. Stock up on soup and ice cream and have some good movies to watch :) (the ice cream will help with the pain too.) Dont eat popsicles cause sucking might make the stitches open again. Good luck! You'll be ok!
