Anyone ever have their childs adenoids removed? |
My 15 month old needs his removed due to chronic sinus infections. Can anyone tell me about their experience? Did it work? I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 10 due to chronic throat infections (later realized it was tonsilitis). I barely have sore throats any more, so it worked really well for me. Just a heads-up (this is pretty explanatory, but none of us thought of it), after the surgery, it's likely your child will vomit blood ... only because the stomach can't digest blood and it drips down when they're performing the surgery. Nobody told me or my family that, so that was a scary, unexpected experience for us afterward. Hope your child is feeling better soon! I had half of mine removed While they are in there...have them take the tonsils too. My experience was with my 18 month old. He did fine..but didn't understand why he couldn't eat..or suck on a bottle. So it was worse after the surgery than the preparation or the surgery itself. If you work, make sure you take plenty of time off...because your child will need you..not a nanny or child care provider...not even dad. And it will likely be a whole week before they are feeling better...just my thoughts.. Yes, my son had his adenoids removed at about 30 months. His was due to ear infections. He had tubes inserted at 18 months (after I fought the surgery off for 12 months with alternative therapies, etc. but finally gave in when his speech wasn't developing due to his inability to hear through the thick syrup behind his ear drum!). When the first set fell out about 15 months later, they inserted a second set and removed his adenoids. I'm happy to say he's a healthy ten year old now, doesn't have a nasal voice, as was predicted as a possible side effect, or any other side effects. And he's never had another ear infection (though he is prone to strep throat, apparently unrelated), so I guess it did work. I had my adnoids removed when I was 8, it was ok.... it made my sinus' better; but when i was 21 i had my tonsils removed and found out that my adnoids had grew back (not to their original size but were back) they zapped them again and I still have my sinus' but they do not cause me to get as bad as drainage that I did before in which plagued me with pnuemonia two seperate times in my life... he will be fine, since he is so young he won't have as big as blood clots.... don't worry! I had mine removed when I was a baby, I am now 37 years old and I lived a perrfectly normal healthy life. |
