What are possible causes of swollen lymph nodes?

My daughter is almost 3 years old. She has sleep apnia and needs to have her tonsils and adenoids removed. She also has several swollen lymph nodes and the doctor is going to test for lymphoma. Isn't it possible that the infection in her tonsils is what is causing her lymph nodes to be enlarged?

As a child, I ALWAYS had swollen glands (lymph nodes). I had my tonsils and adnoids out when I was 14 and was instantly better. My son, developed sleep apnia which was ultimatley caused by his incredibly LARGE adnoids. He had his tonsils and adnoids out last year at age 7. Since, his ear infections have ceased. He finally for the first time in his life sleeps through the night, his nose bleeds have stopped, and he doesn't have strep throat and other things anymore like he used to. Swollen lymph nodes can be caused by a common cold. Also, please know that once they are swollen they can stay that way for months and months! The test are usually precaution. Better to be positive than assume and be wrong.

My advise to you... mother to mother... Get her tonsils and adnoids out. But be prepared. There is absolutley nothing in this world that can describe the feeling a parent will have watching your child come out of the surgery. The anastetic reacts on children much different than adults. They get glazed and lathargic... cry this heart wrenching, sad, scared, lost cry. Prepare yourself for that, but know that they don't remember that part. Let her take a favorite toy with her to keep her comforted. You can't go with her past the prep area and it is very hard to leave them. I think I read the same paragraph of my book the whole time I waited.

It was all worth it in the end.

im 20 years old and ihave the same problem..my tonsils are always swollen, and i have several lymph nodes that are swollen. i have been tested for thousands of things, but i am healthy. my doctor says there are reactive lymph nodes that just swell for no reason or some people just have larger lymph nodes. i plan to have my tonsils removed bc they are causing more trouble than anything. good luck with your daughter. and dont go thinking the worst. im sure she will be fine....
lymph nodes do filter out the bad so yes it could be a possibility but i would get a second opionion if all her tests come back good :) good luck

Lymphadenopathy is swelling of one or more lymph nodes (also called lymph glands). It is a recognized symptom of many diseases, which include:

* reactive: acute infection (e.g. bacterial, or viral), or chronic infections (tuberculous lymphadenitis, cat-scratch disease). When the infection is of the lymph nodes themselves, it is called lymphadenitis, but when the infection is of the lymph channels, it is called lymphangitis.
* tumoral: Primary: Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma;Secondary: metastasis,Virchow's Node
* autoimmune etiology: sarcoidosis.
* immunocompromised etiology: Aids.
* it is also a symptom of cutaneous anthrax and Human African trypanosomiasis.
