Tonsil and Adenoid surgery question?

My 16 yr.old daughter will be having her tonsils and adenoids removed in 3 weeks and she is very nervous about it and we were wanting to know what can she expect before and after surgery?

I'm 20 and i had my tonsils out this year, the truth is it was a really really painful recovery. The first few days after the surgery weren't to bad, but then it got worse. I took a good two weeks to be able to even consider getting out of bed and going back to uni or work.

I think the most important think is to stay hydrated, i couldn't' drink water, but i could manage sweet milk tea. Oh a 2-minute noodles, i lived of 2-minute noodles for two weeks (they tell you to get back to normal food as quick as possibly, and i'm sure it does help, but for me it just wasn't possible)

Also i think there is a wide spectrum as far as how people recover, one of the problems with the internet is that people are more likely to share negative experiences. Some people find it really easy, and the younger you are the better it is.

As far as my experiences, it was probably made worse by the fact that my chronic tonsillitis meant i still had an infection during the surgery, hopefully your daughter wont. Also i've recently been diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder, which might have changed the approach taken if it had been known.

Finally and probably most importantly, i would do it again, yes it was painful, but it was worth it for not having chronic tonsillitis that would flare up whenever i was stressed (i.e. at the most inopportune times). And when it's over your done with tonsillitis for good, being able to get colds and flues that just give you a mild sore throat is wonderful and completely worth it! (though i probably wouldn't have said that at the time)
