Allergy Shots. Need them bad, though I have heard of some serious side affects.? |
Hi, I was wondering if I should take allergy shots or not. I need them really bad. I'm always having a stuffy nose, sneezing, etc. Even now while typing. I also need these shots to clear up my nose so I can get a Adenoids (Enlarged) surgery. Anyway I wanted to know if it was worth it, regarding the side effects that they have. I am right now 13 so I don't want to screw up my life. Thanks for the suggestions in advance. Allergy shots are generally only done if avoidance and medications do not control the symptoms. Find a good doctor and work with him/her. I took shots.. never had any side effects. The shots build up your immunity to your allergies. Worked for me, I don't need to take them anymore. I have been taking them for two years, and it has changed my life. Ive only been sick twice since then. The only side effect is slight swelling which goes away within two days. If the swelling is severe, they can split the shots so that you have one type of allergen in each arm. They are safe and do work, I was retested after the first year and the allergies are improving. Before the shots I did the sinus surgery, which was very painful and did not help. Before you can start shots you will need to be tested. After beginning the shots you will start up at a low dosage and build your immunity up to a full dosage (i.e. maintenance dose) once you reach the maintenance dose you will start to feel better. the shots are given in a small amount then they increase each week so that your body will grow an immunity to whatever you are allergic to. Sometimes peope have side effects. Localized side effects but there are not other side effects that other patients have reported. |
