Kids and Tonsillectomy? |
My daughter is having her tonsills and adenoids removed along with getting tubes put in her ears next week. My Dr. warned me of the scabs coming off too soon and causing massive bleeding. This wasn't an issue when my son had this done. She said her daughter woke up at 3 am gushing blood. Has this happened to any of your kids? My daughter is 6. Is there anything any of you parents have done to prevent this? I am terrified this is going to happen. Any advice ( thats not a joke) is welcome! Thanks! my son has all the same things done when he was 3. we got home and he coughed, and wouldn't you know it, blood all over the place! we ended up back in the hospital for a week! it can really happen, don't give her anything that is like children's Advil or Motrin, there is a component in those that can contribute to bleeding. see if the Dr will let her stay overnight even though they say it is a day surgery procedure that lasts about 2-3 hrs. just say you would rather be safe than sorry. i also think that age has a big part of it also. she is old enough to tell you if something feels wrong, but when they are younger they can't so they force themselves to cough to relieve the itch that comes along with healing. good luck I have never heard of that. My guess is the doctor was giving you a worst case scenario to prepare you just in case. i have seen my nephew get it done and never heard of anything like that |
