My son is having his tonsils and adenoids taken out..........?

what do I expect? He is 5 years old. They are being taken out because they are infected and diseased (or something), they make his breath really, really bad!!! We have tried antibiotics but they only work for a couple of days then the smell comes right back. the ENT thinks this will help. they are also swollen and that makes him snore when he sleeps, and choke on his food!!!

what do I need to expect during and after the surgery? I am scared because he is so young!!!

he is having the surgery Tuesday!!!

I think he'll be fine once he gets them taken out but a warning is that it will hurt very badly and give him soft food until he gets better aslo he may small chance get them i think infected and have to get surgery again if he starts to couggh up blood im not for sure tho

My employer had the same problem with their Grandson.
Basically, they are going to cut open his throat and then send him home. Sorry, that's graphic, but you get the idea. From his point of view, that's what it will feel like.
The first week afterward, every time he coughs, sneezes, swallows, eats, any movement in the throat at all, HE IS Going To Hurt Again. So, don't be surprised if he's fussy or clingy. He won't understand until it starts to heal.
I had mine out at 26, so I remember it very well. Dang that hurts, and ice cream? Bah, who wants to swallow ouch!!

I can't tell you what they do during the surgery, but I had my adenoids taken out when I was 10 and I was told to rest and stay home for about 2 weeks, and not lift anything heavy. I had to eat things like Jello and chicken noodle soup.

I did have a very sore throat for a while, and the worst part was coughing up scar tissue and scabs.
