What is the best age of a child to be operated on their tonsils and adnoids?

my grandson is constantly congested and always has a runny nose or cold,he was operated at age 3 for this same problem and had his tonsils and adenoids taken out,but they grew back as the doctor told us might happen, what is the best remedy for all this congetion, even the medicine does not help that much.

Nowdays, people do it at any age.

My SISTER had her tonsils tahen out at 5 sothat means 5

swollen tonsils dont cause the problem, they alert you that there is some kind of problem or infection in your body. you really shouldnt get them taken out unless really really necessary.

My daughter had her tonsils and 1/2 her adenoids taken out when she was 5 and hasn't had any problems since. I had my tonsils and adenoids taken out when I was 25 and haven't had any problems since. I think the younger you are the better, you bounce back from surgery much quicker.

Depends on the child. If you have doubts, get a second opinion.

It seems like they can do that at any age...I, myself, got it done when I was 26...I had no idea they could grow back, however...I guess it's time for me to go take a look...

If I were his parent, I wouldn't do any more operation. It sounds like allergy. I don't know what state you live, but, I hear a lot (and I know some kids) of cases where a person is constantly sick until they move to another state. If you live in one of the allergy states (do google search to get a map), try to take the kid to non-allergy state for a few weeks to see if he feels better.

well, mine grew back also, even though i am still with a runny nose everyday, you grow out of it. Go get that poor child some allergy shots. Use a Vapor riser with vicks. Rub his feet aswell as his chest and back with vicks, this stuff really helps. Be patient, allergy and sinus problems are foreverlasting. Plus the fact, that the older you are, the worse the surgery.

Try allergy testing. We found out that my daughter was allergic to many foods, grass and trees. The shots have really helped.
