My 2 & half yr-old is due to have her tonsils & adenoids out - anyone experience similar at such a young age? Don't worry, your baby will be fine! My daughter lost hers just after turning 4, they were hyperatrophied, (huge like ping-pong balls, touching each other and choking her) Of course, I was really scared with her being so young, and she wasn't worried at all! Tonsilitis bad enough to have to remove is usually caused from recurrent conditions, like Strep throat, usually always by something bacterial that just won't go away....I thought she would be in horrible pain (like I was @ the age of 13) but it never phased her one bit! Your baby will bounce back just fine, just spoil her rotten...let her pick out her own new PJ's to take to the hospital, some coloring books and small toys to keep her occupied and in the bed...cause my daughter was trying her best to get up and run the halls like a gymnast! Best wishes! and don't worry, MOM! I had mine out at a very young age. Both T's and A's. I can remember vaguely. But not as much as my friends who were a bit older. Give her plenty of liquids. Coke was good it may not be very healthy but it coats the throat. Not that young, maybe 5 or 6. It was painful. my younger brother had it done at about the same age and he was and is fine, if i remember rightly it was approximately an hour before he got back to his usual mischievous self so don't panic its a pretty straightforward procedure. My little girl had her tonsils, adenoids and grommets in her ears. From being a couple of months old she kept getting her tonsils infected, but after her operation she as not had any problems. This operation is more of a worry to the parents then it is to children. She will be fine in a couple of days. Good Luck!!! my 2 year old had the same thing + gromits. i was worried because he was small. 6 months later he was a different child and had almost doubled in size, cried much less, improved speech and appetite. jus eat jelly un ice cream, helps the throat. I had them done wen i was about 3yrs old. (and gromits too) its jus a sore sore throat thats all!! Better sooner than later. Tonsils are likely to get often inflammed and are a repository of viruses which can flare up in later life. My brother kept his tonsils and was very unlucky to get this terrible disease, Henoch-Schonlein syndrome http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henoch-Scho... , which has claimed his kidneys and greatly restricted his adult life. The doctors said that the chances of his contracting it would have been greatly reduced, had he had his tonsils removed at an early age. |
