Chronic Sinus Infections? |
I've been dealing with poor health my entire life. At age 7 I got tubes put in my ears and adenoids taken out. I was healthy for a while after that. Around 12 I got sick again. Allergie tests came back negative and I was diagnosed with asthma. The medecine didn't help and I switched doctors. I was diagnosed with non allergic rhinitis and treated with steroids and antibiotics. I went back to the ear nose and throat doctor that did my operation when I was 7. He said that a scan of my head came back showing my adenoids grew back and I had polyps but didn't suggest any solutions. I don't know what to do. My nose is always running, I have headaches, my ears hurt, my tonsils are almost touching with white dots and hurt a lot, coughing, sneezing, fatigue. I just want to be healthy and normal, what should I do? I go to the doctor and he gives me antibiotics and I'm back a few weeks later. I live in a place where the air is clean. No one else around is sick either. Since you've been dealing with this for some time...and over that time antibiotics have been used...I'd say you really just need to boost your immune system. Over time the use of antibiotics can cause a lowered immune system, mainly because of the way they affect the bacteria in the body...as they destroy the good and the bad. Not the end of the world...but for some you can be more prone to various problems, such as allergies and sinus infections/drainage etc. The problem is likely the area you are living in. If you live near a coal power plant or mine, or any other area that has abnormal levels of airborne particulate pollutants, that can cause some of these problems, especially sinus/respiratory related problems. I have had very similar problems myself for five years, and have been to at least twenty doctors who give me the same song and dance they are giving you. I take the anitbiotics they give me, and it never works. Recently, I found a doctor that is listening. He told me I may have an immune disorder. Which if you think about it makes complete sense, seeing that the antibiotics are not working and I have chronic infections that normally could be easily treated. He ordered IgG, IgA, IgM, IgE, B cell, and T cell activity tests. The results are not back in yet, but maybe you should ask some doctor to do these tests for you. Or tell them you suspect you have an immunity problem because you are not getting better. Guitar.. may be right about the area you live in. The doctor told me that sometimes pollutants can "switch" on something in your body that causes this. I have tried moving, and nothing changes. If indeed that was what was happening (the air), moving does not switch it back. I hope this helps you, I have been looking for years now for an answer and I know what hell you are going through. It is a horrible feeling to finally come to the realization that the doctors do not know what is REALLY wrong with you, few will admit that they have no idea. Go to an immunologist. If they do not do the test, or believe you, find another doctor. I have been to many that say the same thing they have told you, and yet, here I am- still sick. And the white dots on your tonsils are most likely thrush from the constant infections and antibiotics. Ask your doctor for some medicine for it (they prescribe fluconazole for me.) Its not good to let it go on for too long. If you cannot get the medicine quick enough, you can try swishing some malt vinegar around in your mouth, this works for me most of the time, also eating some strong salt n' vinigar chips works too. I know that sounds crazy :) but I swear it works! I hope this helps you in some way, do not give up hope- keep pushing them to find out what is wrong with you- good luck. Okay here are some things you can try to do. First off find a new doctor. Have them run blood allergy tests to see if you are allergic to trees, or plants in your area. It might be dust too. I've had chronic sinus infections my whole life. I recently found out that I have "unusually small" nasal passages. My ENT gives me a chemical peel in my nose every two months. It makes such a difference! I can actually breathe. Your pylops will need to be removed because they can later on become cancerous. When you find the new doctor talk to him about the benefits you might expect if you went through with the sinus surgery. Don't keep taking antibiotics if they are not working. It weakens your bodies immune system and can have unpleasant side effects. Ask the new doctor to get a CT scan of your sinus cavity. This will show whether or not there is an infection, if there is a blockage causing problems and will be able to give him a much better picture of how to treat you. To help your symptoms until then if you can handle it take an allergy medicine, or an OTC sinus medication like benadryl. Those should help most of your symptoms. I wish you all the best of luck because I know how frustrating it is! chronic infections are so difficult to treat with anitbiotics because they don't get everything. |
