My 3 year old daugheter is going to have her tonsils and adenoids out along with tubes, what can I expect?

as far as she is concerned she will just be cranky of course from the pain but kids this age are very resilient so its not like she'd be a 12 year old milking it for attention....my son had tubes placed at two and he was fine the very next day....most of her pain will be from the tonsilectomy though so she'll have the normal sore throat

definitely an earache!

Tubes wont be a problem for her --you'll just have to put in her ear drops as required. She will probably be very cranky for a day & may refuse to eat/drink b/c her throat will hurt but you have to force her to so she doesn't become dehydrated. She can only have liquids/ice cream/popsicles for the first few hrs; she'll be able to have soft foods(like eggs/jello) the next day..Just follow dr orders & keep her drinking/eating.

Your child will wake up really confused and groggy, as well as somewhat sore. While the surgery goes slow, expect to spend 30 minutes to an hour in the recovery room after she wakes up. Take care to just comfort her or feed her a popsicle or whatever she wants. After that, the pain meds do kick in, though she will still be sore. The important thing is to keep her activity down for about 7 days (I know, a 3 year old, nearly impossible) due to the potential for bleeding. I'm not a doctor, but my child had his adenoids out when he was 4 - made a world of difference. Get her into speech if she's having issues with that as well. Many city/county governments offer free programs through the local schools that are very effective.

She will have a sore throat for a few days. Give her lots of soft things to eat, I am sure the doc's will tell you that. When i had my tonsils and adiniods out when i was 4 popsicles were very soothing to my sore throat. encourage her not to yell about the pain, that will only make it worse.

Good luck to her!

I feel your pain. My 3 yr old son is having his removed on Monday. I'm worried because that's what mothers do....but I have done some research and the procedure is quite common. His ENT said the operation shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

God bless...I'm sure everything will be fine.
