Adenoids???

Ihave troubles breathing through my nose and stufff and i kno its my adenoids when u get them removed what is the surgery like?? and does it hurt?, and why do we have adenoids??

Adenoids are in fact "pharyngeal tonsils" much like the tonsils in the back of your throat and the tonsils in your lower trachea, they are made of lymph tissue. Lymph tissue helps fight off bacteria and disease, but can become inflamed and cause more harm than help. I have had my tonsils and adenoids out(because of sleep apnea), and to be quite honest, it didn't hurt. I couldn't speak for more than a week, but that is for healing. After a week or two, there is no pain at all and you can breathe freely.

I am going through the exact same thing and I'm going crazy!!!! My dr told me adenoids are supposed to disappear during childhood(they help to fight off infection) but I still have mine. Do you get really bad colds and bronchitis everytime? I have this horrible cough and I swear its from these damn adenoids! I'm so going to the dr I dont even care if surgery hurts it will be so worth it just to be able to breath through my nose and not have all these upper respiratory problems!!!!

My son had very bad trouble with his adenoids. He had to get them surgically removed, because they were abnormally enlarged. He is doing fantastic now!
You have to have your initial pre-prepp appointment. There, the nurse or doctor will give you a list of things to do, not to eat, after surgery complications symptoms and ect... you will have to sign that you understand what they are telling you. If you don't understand, do NOT hesitate to ask them to explain something better or find someone to explain it to you so that you truly understand.

The surgery is generally on out-patient basis. You go in, you get anesthetized, they do the surgery, you recover from the anesthesia, you go home to recover. The whole surgery will take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. The surgery itself will not hurt. They should not let you leave the facility until you are
1)Awake
2)Completely coherent
3)Demonstrating that you are able to ingest fluids
4)Your blood pressure and pulse are steady
5)You do not have a raging high fever
6)You have used the bathroom to urinate.
7)You have someone there to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the night.
But I will not lie, the recovery is going to be anywhere from 2 to 5 weeks of hell. Depending on how rigerous you are in following the instructions they give you and how fast you heal in general. In 3 days, if you still are in so much pain that you cannot sleep through the night, do NOT hesitate in calling the doctor and asking for a different pain medication. If possible see if you can get it in liquid form. It does make a difference.

Adenoids are actually our body's way of protecting ourselves from certain types of bacteria from entering our body. That is what is suppose to do when it is working right and is at their normal size.

adenoid is the inflammation of the nasopharyngeal tonsil which can block the respiratory passage. in usual normal condition nasopharyngeal tonsil as well as the other tonsils which actually are the aggregation of lymphoid tissues act as the defensive mechanism for the upper respiratory tract. when it is infected, the nasopharyngeal tonsil has to be removed by surgical operation called tonsillectomy. haemorrhage may occur after the operation but as the previous answerers had stated, dont worry because u'll recover soon. good luck and have a nice day! ^o^
