One more question about Adenoidectomy after surgery?

My three year old son is having surgery adenoidectomy done. But after surgery will he be not able to suck his thumb. He loves to suck his thumb espically going to sleep. I just thought of that. I would like to know so I can try to get to stop sucking his thumb. It would be good to get him to stop now and get it over with. I know with my oldest they had something to hold dow his thumb but it near the elbow so they couldn't bend it to suck his thumb.. Thanks

They are doing it since he still getting ear infections and this would help him not getting those ear infections so they wouldn't have to put tubes in and making his hearing more worse of losing since he was born with mild hearing loss in both ears.

I am a Paeds surgeon and my question is why is he getting Adenoidectomy at this age and are they also going to remove the tonsils. Are his adenoids affecting his breathing?
In all honesty it will hurt when he tries to suck his thumb and chances are he'll pull the thumb out on his own. Otherwise, just make sure that you have washed his hands and thumb very well before bed, let him try to suck himself to sleep and when he is asleep, pull it out.
