How old should a child be to have an adenoidectomy?

My son is almost 10 months old and has been scheduled for an adenoidectomy due to excessive nasal congestion. Is 10 months old too young for this procedure and the use of anesthesia? The specialist says it will improve his quality of breathing. The pediatrician says they might grow back. Should we wait till he his older?

To be honest I am more concerned with the anesthesia than I am about the actual operation. How does anesthesia affect a 10 month old?

My son had his adenoids removed at age 2. It's really up to you whether you think you should wait or not. He won't remember it at 10 months. As I said, it's how you feel about it as the parent whether or not he gets it done at this age. As far as growing back, I was never told that before, it's honestly news to me.

EDIT: I can understand your concern for the anesthesia, however the procedure itself is not that long. If I remember correctly my son was back in his regular out-patient room within an hour. Don't worry, they only use what is needed. He won't even be affected by it. He throat will be sore, but nothing to worry about the anesthesia having any side effects.
