Does anybody know anything about Addison's Disease?

They think my sister might have this and they've been trying to figure out what has been going on with her for years and once again she is in the hospital and they are thinking now it is Addison's disease.

yes, I have it, if she has very low blood pressure, feels very tired, loss of appetite, may have darker patches of skin like a sun tan or dark lines on the creases on her palms, also midsection of abdomen may hurt, and heavy breathing after slight exertion, increased urination, she may have it

they can test cortisol/aldosetone levels in her blood to make a diagnosis

I went to the ER about a year ago with these symptoms, I now take steroids to replace the ones my adrenal glands do not make and I can function normally and feel much better, I was very lucky in that it was a fairly rapid onset of addisons (about 3 months) and they made a fast diagnosis. gave me steroids and let me leave the hospital the same day

good luck

Addison's disease is an endocrine or hormonal disorder that occurs in all age groups and afflicts men and women equally. The disease is characterized by weight loss, muscle weakness, fatigue, low blood pressure, and sometimes darkening of the skin in both exposed and nonexposed parts of the body.

Addison's disease occurs when the adrenal glands do not produce enough of the hormone cortisol and, in some cases, the hormone aldosterone. The disease is also called adrenal insufficiency, or hypocortisolism.

The symptoms of adrenal insufficiency usually begin gradually. Characteristics of the disease are

-chronic, worsening fatigue
-muscle weakness
-loss of appetite
-weight loss
