Addison's Disease..................?

what can one do to live a fulfilling life if they have this disease? Is it life threatening?

take your medicine everyday and do what you like to do. If you miss taking your meds for a while it will make your muscles hurt. Sometimes you can have an addison's crisis- if you have not taken your meds in a while or your body is stressed.

Its not life threatening but it won't ever go away. Can't be cured but it can be treated.

heres a website that tells more about addison's too.
http://www.endocrine.niddk.nih.gov/pubs/...

You might ask your dr for dexmethasone its for when your really sick you give your self a cortisone shot and its supposed to help you so you can get to the dr.

I hope this helps!

My mother was diagnosed in her early 40's and she is still alive today in her late 80's. So yes, you can have a fulfilling life.

You need to take medication daily and see your doctor regularly and take care of yourself. Also make sure you see an Endocrinologist if you can because they know about this disease better than a regular doctor would.

The only thing to watch out for is stressful situations such as illnesses or injuries, because they can exacerbate your condition and cause a condition called Addisonian Crisis which can be fatal if not treated promptly and properly.

If you know your symptoms and the symptoms of Addisonian Crisis you should be able to take of yourself well.
