Pain killers - weight gain? |
I have been trying to lose weight for 10 months now through healthy eating and have lost 50lb. However I have severe shoulder pain and have to take strong painkillers to get any relief at all. The trouble is they inhibit weight loss and maybe even contribute to weight gain. Trust me I have tried swimming, heat/cool packs and all sorts of rubs along with massage and I also hate taking painkillers - i'm at my wits end. You need to drink more water. Pain killers also can constipate you and this can lead to gaining weight because your bowels are not functioning properly. Ideally you should go to the bathroom after every meal. A good colon cleanse may help. Go to your local health food store for more information. For me strong pain killers lead to a weight loss. I really didn't feel like eating. So I guess everyone is different. This brings me back to drinking more water. Distilled is the best for flushing your body of the toxins that build up from the medication. I hope you find something to help you continue to loose or at least maintain. Congratulations on loosing the 50 lbs. That is a great accomplishment. You should be very proud of yourself. You should try swimming, and getting massagaes. Anything also to help with any stress/ You should lay off of the pain killers. If this is a pain that is going to be with you for your life, then you should try to deal with it for now, because when you are older, it will get worse and you don't want to build up a tolorance to painkillers, at a younger age, because if that happens, what will releave yur pain when you are an old lady? How many are you taking. I have severe arthritic and constand pain in back and hip,I'm 33, and I deal with constant pain, but I rarely take anything other thatn tylenol arthritis, because I don't want to build up a tolorance, nor rely on pain meds. Its dangerous and unhealthy. Swimm, Naproxin for inflamation, hot and cold packs, these are things you should be doing, not taking pain killers so often that they are hindering your weight loss. It's rather difficult to answer you, since you haven't specified your age, general health (apart from severe shoulder pain) and starting weight. Have you tried hypnotherapy? it is good for pain managment Have a look on the website below for further information |
