Is there anything I can do about allergies during pregnancy? |
I'd prefer something natural, i.e. supplements, acupuncture, chiropractic care, etc...vs. medication. Does anyone know what I can do during pregnancy to give me some relief from these allergies? They are waking me up at night! Hello Mother to Be.... Jules: You did not mention those things to which you are allergic. Allergy is a chronic but controllable condition. Your sensitivity can change as your hormone levels change. It is not uncommon to be more sensitive when you are pregnant. The key to controlling the allergy is to reduce or eliminate your exposure. Since you are having a problem at night, a common suspect would be the dust mite. These microscopic creatures live in your mattress, boxspring, pillows, sheets, pillow cases, blankets, etc. They feed off of shed human skin. They do not bite you. Their bodies and their feces contain a protein that many people's immune systems mis-identify as a bacteria or virus. They key to controlling the allergic reaction is controlling the exposure to the mite. I do this by encasing my mattress, boxspring, and pillows in special allergy proof covers and washing my sheets every 7 days in some special de-mite stuff. I also do not have carpet in my bedroom. Just in case your problem is dust mite (since you didn't say) I will give you a link on how to create a dust free bedroom and a link to that de-mite stuff I use on my sheets. By controlling my exposure, I no longer take allergy medication. Good luck with the allergies and best wishes for a healthy baby. I'm not sure about the natural supplements becasue you're pregnant but I can tell you that my wife took benedryl for hers during pregnancy with the Docs ok. Good luck to you. First congrats on your pregnancy! Is this your 1st? Trying switching ALL of you household products. Laundry detergent, shampoos, body wash, dish detergent, floor cleaners, etc. I work at home for a wellness company and studies have shown the everyday household cleaners that you get at your local store have been linked to allergies, skin irritations, asthma. Plus these natural products are cheaper then your products that you get at your local store. |
