I have suffered back pains and I cant get enough sleep for almost 2 yrs. Doctors say its a muscle spasm.?

I tried acupuncture and all medicine but the pain still comes back. do you guys think of some other medications that are not harmful?

get a mri and see if you have a disc protrution

could you have a pinched nerve.

I can't say much about the medical side of your question, but as far as sleep goes,I would strongly recommend a sleep number bed by select comfort.

I suggest that you find a real, serious doctor that is willing to help, if finances are available, and get some other opinions, and go from there. I've heard cortozone (spelling) shots work for a good while...

I would recommend a new mattress. Either a sleep number (which my brother swears resolved his back pain) or a Tempurpedic (my favorite)! Also, drinking lots of water helps reduce muscle spasms.

Try a chiropractor. That helped me.

Have you tried a chiropractor? They can often help a lot when other doctors can't. They can give you gentle exercises to do, too.

it could be your matress. try a new one if you can afford to buy it. it may be too hard for your back, and induces pain.

I have been a back pain sufferer since the late 1970's. You might be suffering from nerve compression problems. No medicine can actually relieve the pain. I would suggest going to a Chiropractor. All a medical doctor will do is fill you up with pills.

Ask your doctor about flexeril. It DOES make you VERY drowsy, you take it only when needed (just no more than one every 8 hrs.) It helps me sooo much! But like I said, it is a muscle relaxant that well, makes ur muscles relax. I take it before I go to bed, and it helps me all day long! Ask your doctor! I hope you feel better!

No, it seems like they all have their side affects. What kind of mattress do you have? My Mom has these "space foam" pads that conform to your body on her beds. Thus, there aren't any pressure point problems. My stomach can handle Excedrin, so that's what I take, though my aches and pains aren't chronic. Hope you get better.

have you had any x-rays or an mri done on your back? if not i would recommend it so they can see what the problem is. i have back pain to that is chronic. i did not know until a few months ago that the pain was caused because my spine curves at the bottom. i would get it checked out and see if there is any visible problems before just going with muscle spasms. if it is muscle spasms, there are a lot of non narcotic meds that help like zanoflex, and flexeral. talk to your dr or if you dont feel your dr is reserching it enough, get a second opionion. its your back and your pain that you have to live with. dont let someone tell you its nothing without checking it first.

Honestly, you shouldn't ever ask medical advice on an amateur line like this. You've been in pain for TWO YEARS??! There's this new thing in medicine, I don't know if you've ever heard about it: it's called a "doctor". Search one out! And not just any HMO doctor--get a PAIN SPECIALIST!! Your health and well-being are more than worth it!! Off the record, massive doses of Ibuprofin work MIRACLES for me! But you can't be afraid to take at least four every three hours! Some will tell you it hurts your kidneys or liver, or some stupid crap! Don't believe it--that's ONLY if you take thirty of them every day for five years!! I have used it for the pain of TWO ROOT CANALS!! PLEASE trust me (but ask your specialist to make sure!)! As long as it was kept in my system, honest to god, I was pain-free!!!!

A natural muscle relaxant is magnesium. Usually it comes with calcium since they go well together. Maybe both will help you, but you might try just Magnesium Citrate by itself. Also, perhaps you have IBS - irritable bowel syndrome which can manifest pain muscularly. I've had a flu that travels around my weak spots for awhile until I get mad and take Goldenseal/Echinacea from Mother's Market--health nut store! Also, try garlic capsules!

Back to muscle relaxants-- I've heard that the doctor shots of cortisone only make it worse. However, I have heard some doctor say that shots of sugar-water did help greatly. Weird!!

I hope you got more than one doctors diagnoses??? Obviously you didn't. Because if you have continued to suffer for 2 years than ultimately is something other than or additional to/with another problem(s).
