How to help bad sinuses??

My Dad has had chronic sinuses for the last 6 monthd and is suffering very bad headaches. He is on the waiting list for an op but there is no guarantee that this will work. He is gonna try acupuncture aswell. Anybody any advice on how to solve his problems?

i think vapour rub helps the nose

steam lots of steam take him to a sauna it will loosen up the mucus and open the airwaves and tell him to blow his nose..

tylenol sinus tablets helped with the pounding headaches I got from infected sinuses...

Tomato juice with a teaspoon of hot sauce, some garlic, warm it up. The hot sauce should help his sinuses to drain, relieving the pressure for his headache. Worst case, I sometimes eat hot peppers to get my sinuses draining.

If its polyps then there is nothing but surgery will help.
Surgery helped, it helped me.

I think this site will help

look at self care at home..

There is a homoeopathic remedy that I find can really help, it is called New Era for catarrh & sinus disorders. It consists of Ferr. Phos., Kali. Mur., Kali. Sulph. and Nat. Mur.

This takes 2 or 3 days to have an effect but does work. He needs to ask his doctor if it is ok to take this remedy with his orthodox medicine. Hope he gets relief soon.

My husband uses saline packets that you mix with water and squirt up your nose to rinse out all the yucky stuff he is exposed to everyday. He had severe nasal polyps and surgery to remove them and the Dr. recommended flushing his nose out every day to help reduce a recurrence. It might give him some relief until he has surgery.

I struggle with this.

I have to keep my sinuses moist. My ENT has me using a nose spray of Normal Saline with 6.5% Glycerin. Both are available over the counter. I can use it as much as I want. I will irrigate mine if they are really bothering me.

Does he have allergies? Treating mine has really helped.

I have had surgery, not prefect but much better then before.

Good Luck!!!

Dear Sparkle,
Nice of you to look out for your Dad! Here are my best suggestions. First help him to diagnose his condition by narrowing the causes. For example, allergic reactions (very common) can be environmental like hay fever from dust, plant pollen or pet dander. These can be minimized with cleaning, removal of source, or maybe an air filtration device near where he sleeps. Also, some really good foods can increase congestion like milk, cheese, peanut butter and chocolate. He might skip them, or anything else for a month just as a trial. Try interviewing his mom or dad for suggestions!
Now to tackle relief of his symptoms. First, make sure he has plenty of water to drink all day and before going to bed. Second, talk to him about his sleeping position. On his back with head and shoulders slightly elevated is best, because gravity will help! Also, a once a day allergy relief medication like loratadine (antihistimine) is worth a try because the headaches may go away. However, a mild pain reliever before going to bed can help while you are experimenting.
Finally, acupuncture may work, but like medications it may only relieve the symptoms. Better to find and minimize the cause(s). Surgery should be a last resort, but in severe cases it can be a more permanent solution. Good luck and be kind because sinus headaches can make even the best of dads a little cranky. I am sure he knows you want to help him feel better!
