Any suggestions for alternaitve therapies to help with severe pain from endometriosis?

have had this for 16 years, and tried various options: acupuncture, the pill, lupron, surgery (just again this summer) and i'm still in chronic pain. have just read that the pill could be making it worse and am looking for additional options.
thanks for your help.

I know you mentioned surgery, but have you had excision?

See www.centerforendo.com and www.endometriosistreatment.org for information from expert Endo specialists who solely excise the disease from all locations. Their success rates for long-term relief are around 80% or so - once *truly* removed recurrence is rare.

You can also try diet - there is a great book by Dian Shepperson Mills called "Endometriosis: Healing Through Nutrition" which will be enormously beneficial if you wish to go that route. You can also try a pain management specialist, who will work with you to personalize a regimen that is right for your case. Other herbs, alternatives, etc. are also available, although none are curative - but they may all help to relieve some of the worst symptoms.

I recommend getting evaluated by a true specialist such as those at the links above. They can be very helpful in helping you decide which route to take. Hysterectomy, pregnancy, menopause, medical suppression are not cures either and no sense subjecting yourself to treatments that may harm instead of help.

Do check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/erc/ for info and support as well. Good luck no matter what you decide. Feel better soon.

hysterectomy is an option....

Has anyone discussed the merina with you? The merina is a intra uterine device but unlike the copper coil which can cause irritation and inflammation, the merina is coated with a hormone called progesterone in very low doses. It is commonly used now for endometriosis and one of the benefits of the merina is reduced pain and 17% of women actually end up with amenorrhea i.e. absence of periods. Good luck!

I had endo beginning with my very first period. After my son was born I had an endometrial ablation. 16 years later, I had a hysterectomy. THIS was my last option though.

FOR you, I would suggest NOVASURE. AND please check with your DR. about all that it entails.

Here is a web site dedicated to hysterectomies and information for BEFORE you do anything. It is a good starting point for questions to ask your dr.

I had endometriosis for 15 yrs and being pregnant was the only time I felt well..After the birth of my daughter it came back. My doctor suggested a complete hysterectomy because as long as you have ovaries the disease will return. It sounds like you have tried everything. I am glad I had surgery, I can finally live my life pain free. I take a hormone every day to keep the hot flashes down, but other than that I live a very pain free life. Good luck.

I have lived with the same condition for years, I also have ovarian cysts which make periods double painful (and life threatening) I tried the pill too, but you are right to question it, it doesn't solve the problem and can lead to female cancers. The truth is that your body if choc full of hormones already, and that your body is "allergic" to them, it creates painful and dangerous situations when faced with the hormones instead of using them in the way they were intended (useful and good ways). Women these days have more and more female problems, why? Our foods! Milk, meat and chicken eggs have female hormones injected regularly so the animals will produce more, the hormones however end up right inside the foods we eat as a result. Today switching to hormone free milk and eggs will begin to help, but you need to fix the bigger problem for a permanent solution. I have a holistic allergist that cured my allergy to my own hormones in 25 hours, it cost me $45 for the visit, you even keep your clothes on and the fix is permanent. The damage is no longer getting worse but i needed help healing my scared insides, I am now taking a great natural supplement that gives my body the building blocks in needs to heal. The all natural mineral supplements are inexpensive, easy to take and have NO negative side effects. They give you good energy too and help your whole body feel good. email me for more info!

It is no doubt a serious problem and feel for your situation. You may want to investigate "all natural" progesterone therapy. I am in a business that sells health and wellness products. These products are pure, safe, and beneficial. I am not a doctor, nurse or any type of medical practicitioner. I can only tell you that I have been doing extensive research on this very subject and have found that there are many cases such as your own where "medical" professionals are not giving the best information simply because either they are not getting it themselves or because there is no money in it for them to tell you to try something "natural". You see, pharmaceutical companies cannot patent natural progesterone. So they take it and make molecular changes and -waalaa- call it Progestin or some other form of the name. It is not tolerated well by the human body and so has side affects, not to mention the high risk of breast cancer. It is very typical for doctors to prescribe the pill as is has a high content of estrogen which is exactly what your body doesn't need! We have several nurses and doctors on our team and act as resources which explain just why the natural progesterone is a much better product for this and other conditions with little or NO side effects. You can contact me at sunnyside_64@yahoo.com if you would like to know more and find out how to get this product I am describing or would just like more details on my research. I am not trying to "sell" you anything. But couldn't bare to keep my mouth shut since it sounds like you could use some real help for a change. I know some people who swear by the natural alternative progesterone and have went on to tell others so offer help to them. Hope you find the relief you deserve...

Before major sugery I would try a natural supplement that starts at the cellular level. It is called Ambrotose A0 for thirty days to see if you get some relief.

I would return to the acupuncture and go to a practitioner that can recomend the right herbs to use in conjunction. naturopathic medicine may help also. good luck

I think you need several cycles of menstrual regulation by herbs, so as to erase the abnormal growth and resume the normal conditions in your pelvic. In other words, don't just focus on pain killing.
