Drs of Oriental medicine do more than just acupuncture. There are many variables not taken in on pay scales. Contact admin offices of various oriental med schools. To a large degree states have differing requirements for licensure. Also some states have insurance coverage.

We are working on getting research to answer your questions. In the meantime, the answer is... It Depends. It depends on where you practice, the type of practice you set up, the number of days per week you work, the number of patients you see per day, and what you charge them. You have some control over your income because you can decide many of these things. Some practitioners make a nice 6-figure income others are struggling to get by. No matter what it is hard work but very fulfilling! Here are some great tips and resources:

Good Luck.

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career. Most acupuncturists are not on salary.
Most acupuncturists start their own practice.
So as someone said the avg. is a little over 40k but those with good business and practice management, and marketing skills have potential to make a lot more money.
