Acupuncture..........?

What do you think about it?
Is it possible, according to you, that simply thru small needles we can rebalance our body's energy?
have you ever tried it? did it work, or did you see no results? or was it just placebo?

tnx for the opinions,
peace & luv
What :)

I think it is great. I tried it. Then I went to school for it because it worked so effectively.

I believe it is absolutely more than a placebo effect; however, allopathic medicine cannot identify the physiological mechanism at work. Traditional Chinese Medicine has very defined theories as to what happens, but the paradigm is different from allopathic understanding.

It is not so different from countless pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceuticals have certain physiological effects, but the reason that physiological effects result in positive change isn't always understood.

There are definitely illnesses and injuries I would not treat with Traditional Chinese Medicine, but it does provide a process of health care for many illnesses and injuries that has less dangerous or less negative side-effects.

It is old chinese tradition. This is to control the 'CHI'

You know, I am fairly sceptical, but
I got some free accupuncture for a complicated reason,
and it really helped with some sore muscle pain I was having.

But if I had something serious going on, I am ALL about evidence-based medicine.

I agree, anything serious I would go see a doctor, but If this works for you then does it matter? I am a med student and I don't beleive things like acupuncture and Reikii work for the reasons they say they do, but they are shown to work. It could just be for the "placebo effect" which is really just the power of the mind over the body. I believe it is for this reason, but I wouldn't stop my patients from getting this sort of therapy if it can provide benefits.

Yes, I don't think is possible, I know it is possible, I've seen it, I've studied it a bit and I have tried some points on myself.
It actually works through reflexes. As you know, our body is completely full of neurones, and this neurones are all interconnected and related in your spine.
Accupuncture doesn't touch neurones but works on an area close to them, causing them to react and send signals to a different neuron which then reacts with the neurons around it affecting the organs these last ones are in charge of.
I've seen people getting healed even from Herpes, with a few sessions. Herpes is a viral disease that tends to appears again and again, but only on thirty percent of people treated by accupuncture, this Herpes reappers once again. Medicines (pills and stuff) don't even get close to this.
I work on health, though i am not an accupuncture practitioner, I do strongly believe in it.

Regards, Lifeguard.

My parents did it and quit smoking! They had it done by people from China who specialized in it. Then my Mom got it done again by a chiropractor and she said it was horrible the 2nd time around.

Personally, I've found it helpful in dealing with pain, numbness, and emotional depression. It took less than 5 sessions to improve my mood. Research is bearing out that it is highly effective for a number of conditions. Go to the National Institutes of Health and search their database for acupuncture studies.
