Does acupuncture really work?

I have headaches all the time. I've been the doctor about them and they haven't been able to do or give me anything to really make them stop. Also, is acupuncture painful?

I have been seeing an acupuncturist for 4 months for my headaches. I haven't had a bad headache in about 3 months. However, acupuncture has a cumulitive effect, which means you need to do it multiple times before you see a result. If you decide to use this for your treatment expect to have to go weekly for 4-8 weeks, then biweekly for 4-8 weeks then monthly for maintence. It can be expensive but for me, it was the only thing that worked and my clinic offered a sliding scale, which was payment based on your income.

I wouldn't say it is painful. There is a slight sting as the needle enters which fades away, some points I dont even feel the prick and other points (palm of hand, side of the hands, side of the toes, top of feet) that are more sensitive only because they are more bony. If the pain from a needle lasts longer than a few seconds you can ask for it to be removed and try another point. Also, Japanese acupuncture (which I use) is more gentle than Chinese.....they use smaller needles that are more shallow.

Acupuncture has been around for a very long time and it can be very effective. The needles are so small, most people say the most you'll feel is a tiny pinch. Good luck!

Acupuncture is what is referred to as empirical medicine - it has stood the test of time and numbers. One billion plus Chinese can't be wrong.

My brother used to get migrain headaches all the time. We went to a lot of doctors, and our last stop was acupuncture. It was not painfull to him, and he is a wimpy guy. lol But about a month after his treatments, his headaches were gone. He does still get 1 or 2 headaches a year though, but that's nothing compared to what it used to be. I highly recommend you try it.

Absolutely. I was doing acupuncture for female problems and I went in one day with a headache. She put some needles in and the headache was gone. Acupuncture isn't really painful. It depends on the points. Some points on the feet are a little painful but the sensation goes away within 10-15 seconds. Then you don't feel them at all.

Acupuncture has worked well for me. I had severe back pain and my acupuncturist cleared it up with acupuncture and chinese herbs. It was not painful.
