Acupuncture questions?

i am curious to try acupuncture. i don't have any aches or pains or anything, do i need to have a reason to go? will it still be any benefit to me?

althoughh i've put on some weight and i'd like to lose it. will acupuncture help? i'm not overweight or anything, my bmi is 21.5.

how much would it cost? does it hurt?

thanks in advance!

ps: i'm 16 years old, i don't know if that makes a difference...

Prevention is the best medicine! In ancient times a Chinese doctor was paid to keep his patient well and was no longer paid if the patient became sick.

You will benefit if you go before you become sick.
Acupuncture can build up your immunity, give you energy, and help you lose those few extra pounds.

Find an acupuncturist below.

It is nice to know someone at your age is interested and willing to take part your health. Acupt. can be used as a preventative measure as well as treatment for aches, pains and even the common cold. It is also very good for female disorders like cramps, clots, extended mens.
Acupt can help reduce certain cravings of food.
You can also receive a general "tune-up" treatment just for the overall health and well being of body. There are also stress reduction TX as well.

Does it hurt...depends on the location of the needle insertion. Some parts of the body is more sensitive than others. It is worth receiving. As a 16yr old one of your parents would need to go with you.

Cost varies from 45-85 per TX not including the first visit fee.
Some cities that practitioner wont charge anything, other states it may be just an additional $30.00

For loosing weight look at the amount of soda, junk food you may be eating. The soda alone can add alot of calories. A balanced Diet and exercise is the best method. Yes acupt can help to loose weight but like everything else will take time.

Good luck, also try a few different practitioners out and go to the one you like best.
below is a web page to help you find a practitioner

I totally agree with the last answer. When you go for the tx. the practitioner asks a lot of question and if there is nothing wrong with you how is he/she suppose to help you. plus just one tx? You have to go for the series of treatments. If you are just curious find an acupuncture school near your area and just get one treatment or $20. may be one day you become an acupuncturist.

Acupuncture is not just for people who are unwell, but those who with to maintain and improve their wellness. The Eastern Explanation for how Acupunctures works is that the life energy flowing through the body which is termed Qi (pronounced chee) can be influenced and balanced by stimulating specific points on the body. These points are located along channels of energy known as meridians that connect all of our major organs, promoting balance and activating the bodies immune system.

We treat patients for a wide variety of maladies, from acute diseases like fibromyalgia and diabetes, to mild problems like wight problems, mood swings, and low energy. Acupuncture is worth a try if you are interested in improving your wellness at any level, and prevention is always the best medicine. You will have to talk to your parents, I reccomend you check online for licenced acupuncturist near you. Our office is listed on www.acufinder.com, under Dr. Sara Pettitt L.Ac. I hope that answers your questions!

yes it will still benefit your overall health
it does not hurt and the cost depends on the person doin it
you will need to have your paents consent you are a minor

Yes it can still help you as preventative medicine. I get treatments and though once in a while a needle hurts I look forward to the treatments for the good feeling they give me.

I don't understand, however, that you would want to lose weight with a BMI of 21.5. That sounds plenty thin to me, please re-think the idea of weight loss!
