Has anyone had acupuncture or knows owt about it?

I had acupuncture 2 years ago to help to quit smoking, it involved needles in the back of the ears which stayed in for 10 days.
The treatment didn't work and after a couple of days I started with Otitis Externa, an outer ear infection, in both ears.
When the infection had cleared up I had the treatment done again, it still didn't work and the infection came back with a vengeance the next day. I've never had acupuncture since but I have been plagued with these ear infections.
I'm convinced the acupuncture caused it but my Dr. doesn't believe it. What do you think?

Yeah Shearer, Great... I know you're new but go easy with the puns, we won't be able to concentrate if you carry on!

You had auricular acupuncture done. The whole body can be mapped onto the external part of the ear and the system is quite involved. Most likely the acupuncture points used were those that address detoxification and withdrawal. Auricular acupuncture can be done using small acupuncture needles, intradermal needles held on with a small piece of tape, or seeds (vaccaria or mustard). It is very common to have a client leave the office with these sterile, tiny, intradermal needles inserted, but leaving the needles in for 10 days is a very long time, something I have never done or seen. Because the ear is avascular, it is prone to infection. Oils can build up on the skin and increase the risk of infection. The care of your ears should have been explained to you before you left the practitioner's office. Complications with acupuncture are minimal. However, when there is cause to suspect malpractice, it very often involves an ear infection.

I'd get a second opinion, sounds to me like it has got some connection. ha ha, "sounds", get it??!!

I've had acupuncture. The needles were NEVER left in.
If I were you, I'd contact whatever portion of your state government licenses acupuncture and see if that person is registered. If not, turn them in. If so, find out how you can make some kind of complaint against them.
It makes sense to me that leaving needles under the skin for 10 days could bring in bacteria. But I'm no doctor.

Im a Medical Doctor , Ive never heared that someone has needles satayed in his/her body !!!

Acupuncture works with nerve system , they put the needles in the special points in the body and i,ve heared that if they can not find the proper point , it will cause some problems but never heard of a problem like Otitis Externa !

In Medicine every thing is possible , Maybe its because of that and also its possible that you have started to have ear infection , exactly when you started acupuncture and it doesnt have anything to do with the needles .

Cant say anything for Sure .
