Scalp tenderness after acupuncture?

I had my first acupuncture session today, including needles into my scalp. They caused a weird (heavy?) sensation at the time, and now my scalp is very sore. Is this normal? How long will it take to go away?

I gave up on acupuncture because every time I got a treatment the needles hurt going in, coming out, and for some time afterwards. Acupressure might be an option for you, based on the same principles but without needles. Your scalp has a lot of nerve endings and blood vessels, which is why a cut there bleeds so copiously. By the time you read this the tenderness should have gone away but that's all it is, too many nerves were affected by the needles.

If you're still sore when you wake up in the morning, have someone examine your scalp to see if there are sores, scabs or discolorations. If so then see a doctor if it looks serious, otherwise treat it with hydrogen peroxide on a cotton swab.
